Chapter 9

  • Jacob can hear that elegant saxophone that was starting to play outside. The guests have been starting to arrive at the ballbut he wasn't in a mood to even dress up.
  • Okay.
  • He sound like a fucking chic, but he was just in a foul mood. Of all places, why does the event have to be here?
  • He wants to see her. He wants to see how gorgeous she is in her gown, or how beautiful she looks like tonight. He must admit, he's scared. This place brings so much memories in him. Beautiful and painful.
  • He sighed and drank his martini.
  • He stared at the tailored black tuxedo Miana picked for him. The ball started an hour ago.
  • "ATTORNEY Falcon, I'd like you to meet Ingrid Shaw, the CEO's mother." Andrew Zobel casted her a gentle smile before she looked at Jacob's mother.
  • Sophisticated, powerful and beautiful. She still looks stunning even in her age. Her eyes were exactly like Jacob's and her son's. Ingrid Shaw looks so intimidating, too. You could really tell she's a powerful woman..
  • "Good evening, ma'am." She politely greeted.
  • "I know your parents, Albert and my late husband are good friends. There was one time when Albert brought you with him in the house. You were just a baby. Now look at you, hija.”
  • Late husband?
  • Jacob's father died? And wait, did she say she's been in his household before?
  • She smiled. "Daddy never mentioned it. How do you do, mam?"
  • "I'm great, hija. I hope you're liking Strike? The executives aren't giving you a hard time?" Ingrid smiled at the gorgeous woman infront of her.
  • Ingrid thought her son should be dating the likes of her. Someone rich, smart and gorgeous.  Plus, she's a lawyer.
  • Not some island girl her son went crazy for.
  • Now she isn't that bad at all. Tatiana thought. She heard Andrew chuckle. "I like working for Strike mam. They're all nice.”
  • "Ah, my son is an exception." Ingrid rolled his eyes. "Speaking of that man, he hasn't come out yet. Jake doesn't like this place so much."
  • Tatiana bitterly smiled.
  • Maybe because it reminds him of them, their memories here together. She'll be a liar if she denies that being here doesn't make her think of the life they shared here once.
  • But Tatiana has moved on. This Island was the place where she fell inlove and conceived her son. Yes, there are painful memories but if she hadn't been her, she wouldn't have an adorable son right now.
  • "Good evening everyone." Andrew Zobel spoke at the stage, he looked dashing in a gold suit and a pregnant wife beside him. He's the definition of a happy man. "In behalf of Jacob Shaw, who is running late because he has some important things to deal with," he made an excuse for his friend. “I welcome you all to the Strike's annual ball. This ball has been here for the past fifty years, and the Strike never forget the first founder's tradition and I think this will go on for a many more years. Enjoy the night everyone. Dance, eat and have fun."
  • The people clapped for him, when he descended down the stage, he pecked her wife's lips.
  • Her shoulders sagged. She's getting bored. The people in the same table as her have plus ones. They talked with her earlier but now they're busy talking amongst their partners.
  • She felt out of place.
  • Where is he, by the way? Maybe the important matter he's dealing with is some woman.
  • After dinner, the host spoke on stage.
  • "Please welcome the CEO of Strike Bankings, Mr. Jacob Luis Shaw." That earned him claps, when she saw him, she felt her heartbeat went erratic.
  • She didn't see a Jacob Shaw, instead she saw a greek god few meters away from her. He looked so gorgeous in his black tux, gold vest and the gold handkerchief on his chest. He had new haircut too.  His beard stayed. Making him look like a hot school boy.
  • He paused for a while, he was searching for someone and when their eyes met, he held her gaze. She was too far from him but he could see how beautiful he was tonigh.  He still couldn't see her whole outfit because she's sitting, but to see her hair curled and the hint of her strapless gown was driving him crazy.
  • Her breath was hitched, god damn it, she was so affected.
  • He broke the spell, he started to speak.
  • "Evening, everyone." He started. "My grand father, Richard Shaw, the one who started this would be very happy to see that the annual ball he started is still here."
  • "I would like to welcome and thank you for coming tonight, and for the endless support to Strike bankings. And I'd like to thank my family for the support that they have given, for believing that I can continue my fathers legacy." He looked at Miana, she gave him a small wave and so did her son. Jasper's got the encouraging look.
  • "And to my number one inspiration." He found Tatiana's eyes again. "The only woman who keeps me motivated without even knowing it." He chuckled. Shit. He knows he's addressing to everyone, right?
  • That earned sighs from the women across the hall. And claps from the gentlemen. "And the organizers of this party led by my ever active mother, Ingrid Shaw."
  • "I hope we all have fun tonight, drink, dance, mingle and celebrate." He raised his glass, then he walked away from the stage.
  • All the while Tatiana was having a hard time controlling her emotions. Damn it, Why didn't she look away?
  • His eyes can drug her before, why was she letting it happen again?
  • Three men took her into the dance floor. The truth is, she didn't want to dance at all but she didn't have anything else to do. She plans on ditching the rest of the program after this dance .
  • She was glad that they were all gentlemen. . The first man named Lance, was an accountant. The other one introduced himself as Jeric, he's a share holder. And the last was Lloyd, he manages one of the Bank's branch.
  • "Mind if I take you for a dance?" Said a baritone voice behind her. She looked up, and saw that it was Calixto Jimenez, Jacob's cousin.
  • Unlike Jacob, he has gentle features. . His cheekbones are well defined. His perfect nose can catch your attention and so are the hazel eyes.  Calixto has this boy next door charisma.
  • Damn, Jacob surely has good genes. She knew for sure her son, Julian, would grow up handsome like his father.
  • "I'm Calixto Jimenez, the CEO's cousin." He introduced himself.  "Your name, miss?"
  • "It's Tatiana Falcon."
  • "You must be the lawyer Tatiana. I heard alot about you." He said, they started to dance into a soft music.
  • "Heard alot about me?" She echoed. "Where?”
  • "Newspaper. You're the new laywer of Strike. Aren't you?" He chirped. Her hand was at the small of her back, the other to her hand.
  • She nodded.
  • "You should read newspaper sometimes, Tatiana." He said coolly.
  • "I'd keep that in mind." She smiled.
  • "You're Christian's sister. Your brother and I, we fell inlove with the same girl." He said making her stop.
  • Now Calixto's got her whole attention.
  • "He used to hate me. Well, not anymore." They continued to dance, Calixto was a good dancer.
  • She couldn't help but ask. "And who did the girl end up with?"
  • Calixto grinned, they stopped dancing because the song has ended. He didn't answer her question at all.
  • He led her back to the chair. "Thank you, Tatiana. I enjoyed the dance."
  • She went out to get some fresh air. The sea breeze welcomed her skin.  People were still dancing inside.
  • She drank the glass of wine the waiter gave her. It was actually good. Hmm. It's a really good wine. She doubts this event is serving cheap wine.
  • She couldn't explain why she wasn't enjoying the party. And she couldn't help but ask why Jacob wasn't around.
  • Maybe like her, he's bored. Locked himself in a room with a woman he could share the night with.
  • Somehow she's proud to see him standing in that stage and addressing to people like that. If ... if he didn't leave her, He wouldn't even have the Strike at all.
  • "He's not your type." She didn't have to turn around just to know who it was.
  • "Excuse me?"
  • "I meant my cousin. He's not your type. He's not into arts, and he doesn't know how sweet talk."
  • Jacob was admiring the view. Fuck, she's so hot wearing a gold dress with that fucking slit, and it was showing her bare back. Damn that fucking dress and her slender long legs. It was driving him insane.
  • If he had a camera at his hand, she would've taken her a picture.
  • She turned around and when she saw him, her heart only hammered more. "But he's a gentleman. And who are you to tell me what's my type?” she raised an eyebrow.
  • He hummed. "I was the first man you ever loved."
  • Jacob moved closer, moving his body closer to her. He gently he took her hand, then placed it around his neck.
  • "What are you---"
  • "Shhh."
  • He placed his hands on her waist. Having her close like this reminds him of their passionate nights.
  • "Jacob,"
  • He smiled at her. He loves it too much when she calls his name. He wanted to cry but he was a brave man now alright. And besides, he doesn't wanna ruin her night.
  • Even in his wildest dreams he didn't expect they would ever meet again. He thought it was impossible to see her again.
  • "I've  been watching you dance with someone else. I wanted to be your first dance tonight. But you sat so far away from me. Why didn't you look for me?”
  • He looked up so she couldn't see his misty eyes. Whatever he does, Tatiana will always be his weakness.
  • "We should dance, it's a good song." He said.
  • 'Tell me that you turned down the man
  • Who asked for your hand
  • 'Cause you're waiting for me'
  • He started to move. She was shocked that this guy actually knows how to dance.
  • "You know, someone told me I shouldn't trust a man who can dance."
  • Jacob chuckled. "You don't have to worry when it's me. Huh, you looked so shock to see me dance.”
  • 'But I've got no plans at all to leave
  • And would you take away my hopes and dreams?
  • Just stay with me'
  • "I just want you to know that you're the most beautiful woman here tonight---no, not just tonight but to my whole lifetime."
  • 'All my senses come to life
  • While I'm stumbling home as drunk as I
  • Have ever been and I'll never leave again
  • 'Cause you are the only one
  • And all my friends have gone to find
  • Another place to let their hearts collide
  • Just promise me, you'll never leave again
  • 'Cause you are the only one'
  • If he promised to never leave again, she might kiss him. Fuck consequences and regrets. Fuck everything. She's getting lost into his eyes once again.
  • "You've changed so much, Tati." His voice was rasp. "Even the way you looked at me changed. Well, you can be whatever you want. Whether a cook or a lawyer, or you can change it. But you know what's never gonna change, hm?”
  • He held her tightly.
  • "W-what?” she asked weakly.
  • You will always be the one I love.
  • He shook his head.
  • He's still inlove with her. It would be forever. He loved her for so long, no matter how he strayed. At the end, his heart would always yearn for home, for his Tatiana. He'd do anything to have her back. She might not like his ways but he's going to make her fall inlove with him again. And he'll marry her again so he could make love to her every single night.
  • "Tatiana," they locked eyes. His blue ones piercing her green eyes. Aurora. It looked like the Northern lights.
  • "Jacob,"
  • Her composure and walls melted and broke down when his lips touched hers again after the long years. God knows, even in her sleep his lips hunt her. There's no place in her body where his lips didn't touch before.
  • Oh those sinful lips.
  • When her fingers raked his hair, she knew she had lost it.
