Chapter 14 A Walk With Double Intentions

• Ellie looked at herself in the mirror inside her tent, her face slightly tense, as if every wrinkle in her expression could betray her. The reflection showed a girl who still didn’t quite understand why she had suggested this walk with Daelan. Why had she done it? Now she was scared of her crazy idea. Maybe the best thing was just to walk. The pressure in her chest increased with every passing second, and though she didn’t fully understand what was driving her, there was something in her, maybe a silly spark, pushing her to go forward. She felt the need to move her hair, as if by doing so she could get rid of all those thoughts that were suffocating her.

• Finally, she decided it was time. She stepped out of her tent, her pulse quickening, and immediately noticed the stares on her. A few days ago, she would have been more aware of them, but now, though they still made her uncomfortable, she had gotten used to them. What she didn’t expect was to run into Kethan. When their eyes met, she didn’t need words to understand what he was thinking. His expression was one of disdain, as always.
