Chapter 8 She Resides Right Below You

  • As Carson felt the warmth of the touch, he was momentarily paralyzed.
  • Beside him, Wendalyn shook her head disapprovingly. "That's enough. Your mouth is greasy, yet you're kissing others. Eat properly."
  • Raelynn chuckled softly. "Oh, come on. It's fine. He's accustomed to it."
  • Carson's mind raced.
  • Accustomed to it? Who could possibly grow accustomed to this? This is my first time being kissed by someone. This girl is simply despicable! Not satisfied with taking Mommy away from me, and now she's scheming to become Mommy's daughter-in-law? And who in their right mind enjoys eating mushrooms? It's simply too bizarre!
  • After dinner, Wendalyn headed to the kitchen to wash the dishes.
  • Watching her slender figure, Carson felt a pang of sorrow.
  • It's all because that tattletale eats so much, causing Mommy to become thin.
  • He resolved to retrieve his little piggy bank and give it to Wendalyn.
  • Then, he banished the tattletale, Raelynn, and ensured that Wendalyn lived a life of luxury with him!
  • Every year on his birthday, Joseph would present him with a card, claiming the money inside could buy a mansion.
  • If my little piggy bank can purchase a mansion, surely it can also buy plenty of meat, can't it?
  • With this in mind, he slipped out of the room while Wendalyn was busy washing dishes.
  • He was off to retrieve the card for Wendalyn!
  • On the 27th floor, Calvin's call came promptly.
  • "Mr. Maberry, we've located a woman, and all the information matches Arwen."
  • Timothy smirked. "Pinpoint her address."
  • "It's already been pinpointed. She resides right below you, in 2601." Calvin coughed lightly.
  • Timothy paused briefly, then furrowed his brows. "Are you certain?"
  • Calvin had meticulously verified the information multiple times upon discovery. He was resolute. "Absolutely certain, Mr. Maberry!"
  • Timothy took a deep breath and instructed, "Keep it under wraps. I'm heading downstairs immediately."
  • In the bedroom, Cayden swiftly completed the remaining exercise books.
  • Surveying the at least ten exercise books on the table, he nodded approvingly.
  • Precise and tidy, not bad.
  • With the absence of the irritable Timothy's presence outside, Cayden rose from the seat and exited the room.
  • The space was entirely vacant.
  • It seems the man has gone out. Could that mean I can also return home? After all, my task is fulfilled.
  • Thinking so, he nonchalantly exited the door.
  • He trod cautiously, deliberately opting for the stairs, oblivious to the fact that as he turned the corner into the staircase, the elevator chimed open.
  • A little boy identical to him emerged with cautious steps.
  • ...
  • In the kitchen, Wendalyn, engrossed in washing dishes, failed to notice her son's departure.
  • She neatly arranged the final bowl, and her phone rang.
  • Answering the call, she heard her brother Sawyer's composed voice once more. "Timothy is scrutinizing the entire airport's surveillance system. If their operatives are competent, they should locate your whereabouts soon."
  • Wendalyn was speechless.
  • She clenched her teeth. "Is Timothy a bloodhound?"
  • No matter where she went, she couldn't evade him!
  • "Expedite the process of resettling with the child."
  • Wendalyn exhaled deeply. "Understood..."
  • After ending the call, she neglected to dry her hands, pivoting and striding out of the kitchen.
  • "Rae, Cay, tidy up a bit. I'm taking you out."
  • Raelynn promptly appeared. "Mommy, where are we headed?"
  • Wendalyn tenderly stroked Raelynn's head. "This residence is no longer suitable for us. I'll take you to another house. And where's Cay?"
  • "He's just..." Raelynn glanced toward the couch, then widened her eyes. "Hey, where's Caydy?"
  • She had just spotted him on the couch.
  • What! Cayden is missing?
  • Wendalyn's heart plummeted. If Cayden was missing, she couldn't stray too far.
  • Otherwise, Cayden would fret, and there was a high likelihood he might cross paths with that sc*mbag Timothy.
  • Having already lost one child, she couldn't bear to lose Cayden as well.
  • Given the circumstances, she had no option but to temporarily take Raelynn and seek refuge in the neighboring 2602.
  • Fortunately, when she leased the apartment, she had foreseen this and secured both units on the 26th floor together.
  • She now appreciated her past foresight.
  • On the 26th floor, the elevator opened.
  • Timothy strode briskly toward 2601.
  • He had tirelessly sought Arwen for so long, and now, on the brink of meeting her in person, myriad emotions undoubtedly stirred within him.
  • Standing before the door, he hesitated momentarily before lifting his hand to knock, yet received no response.
  • Is it possible that no one is home?
  • However, recalling Calvin's assured tone moments ago, he patiently rapped a few more times.
  • Unbeknownst to him, each knock reverberated in Wendalyn's heart next door.
  • After knocking for a while, Timothy's patience waned.
  • The reality was that 2601 was unoccupied.
  • He pivoted and headed toward the elevator, his brow furrowed in consternation.
  • Could Calvin have made a mistake? Could Arwen not be in 2601 but in...
  • He directed his gaze toward 2602.
  • Inside room 2602, Wendalyn had been surreptitiously observing the man's movements through the peephole.
  • Just as she heaved a sigh of relief, he abruptly veered toward her direction.
  • Her heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively retreated a few steps.
  • Shortly after, there was a knock at the door.
  • D*mn it! After all these years, this man remains as persistent as ever!
  • Wendalyn contemplated feigning absence, but this time, the knocking persisted longer than before...
  • Evidently, there was an intent to persist until the door was opened!
  • Wendalyn turned to Raelynn with a reassuring smile. "Sweetie, retreat into the innermost room and await me, alright? Regardless of the circumstances, refrain from emerging!"
  • Raelynn's countenance brimmed with reluctance.
  • "Mommy, who's seeking you outside? If they're nefarious individuals, I've imbibed invaluable lessons from Uncle Sawyer; I can provide assistance."
  • Wendalyn extended her index finger on her right hand. "No, I don't require your assistance. Enter the room, be obedient."
  • Observing Wendalyn's demeanor, Raelynn discerned there was no room for negotiation and acquiesced, entering the room obediently.
  • With the child secluded, Wendalyn's apprehensions abated significantly.
  • As the incessant knocking persisted, she inhaled deeply, donned her mask, and opened the door.
