Chapter 7

  • I woke up cranky the next morning. I didn't get enough sleep last night and my back ached from the way I slept. Untop of it all, I got my period today and my stomach cramped badly. I slept in a bit late this morning so I missed breakfast. I took cleaning supplies and headed to the king's room. I knocked and opened. A naked girl lay sprawled on the bed. Great. Now I was pissed. She got up and yawned as she picked her yellow dress from the floor. I thought the king hated half-breeds but here he was fucking all half-breeds within the perimeter.
  • I smiled sweetly at her as she exited the room. I stripped the bedsheet with anger and tossed them on the floor. God I wanted to fucking break something. Preferably the king's head. He walked out of the bathroom with sweatpants that hung low on his hips. He sniffed and looked around. I turned away from him and continued cleaning. He strode to me and turned me around.
  • "Are you hurt?"
  • "No"
  • "Then why the fuck do I smell blood on you"
  • "Why do you care? You've been ignoring me for one fucking week and all of a sudden you care? Well fuck you and...." Pain resonated through my head as I was slammed into the wall. I clawed at his hands as I tried to breath.
  • "Don't you ever talk to me like that" Dark spots danced around my vision. He muttered a few words but I didn't hear because I passed out.
  • ***************************************************
  • "What were you thinking" I was slowly regaining consciousness. My head ached badly and my throat felt raw. I opened my eyes and saw Thane and his look alike. They turned towards me and he walked out of the room slamming the door. His look alike walked to my bedside and sat on the chair beside me.
  • "How do you feel?"
  • "Fine." my throat felt scratchy. He offered me a glass of water and I drank.
  • "I'm Jairus."he offered his hands
  • "Esmeralda" I said taking it.
  • "I know" he smiled.
  • "Are you Thane's brother?"
  • "On first name basis with the alpha I see" I blushed.
  • "I'm not his brother." A relative probably.
  • "I'm his son."
  • And I blacked out again.
  • ___________
  • I woke up to the sound of voices again. Jairus and another man in a white coat were talking. I lay still trying to hear what they were saying. A shadow loomed over me and I opened my eyes. The man in the white coat looked down smiling at me.
  • "I'm Dr.Kyros. How are you feeling?"
  • "I feel better"
  • "You had a slight concussion but everything seems to be fine."he smiled at me. He looked over my records.
  • "She is free to go but she has to been on bed rest till the end of the day and she should be fed properly." he closed his chart and smiled at me.
  • "Have a nice day." He left the room gently closing the door. Jairus glared at the door for a moment then turned to me.
  • "I'll give you some privacy to dress. I'll be waiting outside. I winced as I got up. My head throbbed fiercely. Thane must have hit me hard against the wall. Thankfully I didn't break anything. I removed the hospital dress and folded it, placing it at the end of the bed. I put on my red dress and walked out. Jairus was relaxed against the wall, eyes closed. He opened them as soon as I closed the door.
  • "Let's go" he led me through the doors of the hospital and the training field into the mansion. We went to the terrace in the south wing and sat. A few minutes later a blue dress brought in a trolley with food and served. I felt a bit uncomfortable as she served plus she gave me the stink eye.
  • "Will that be all sir?" Jairus waved her off dismissively. He placed mashed potatoes  with vegetables on the side.
  • "Eat" he pushed the plates towards me. I picked the spoon and ate a bit. I wanted to ask questions but I didn't know if I should.
  • "Ask" huh?
  • "You want to ask me questions right?" I nodded hesitantly.
  • He smiled "Ask me"
  • "What of your mother?" I blurted. Oh no! I shouldn't have asked that.
  • "It's fine. She died."
  • "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked."
  • "It's fine. She died a long time ago. Over four centuries now." Four centuries? Then how old was he?
  • "Six centuries." I was not even twenty-five yet. Then how old was the king?
  • "Older than a millennia." That fucking pervert. He was way too old for me. Wait!! Was he reading my mind? He smirked and nodded.
  • "Please stop. It's uncomfortable."
  • "I'll try"
  • "Where have you been all this while?"
  • "Around. I travel a lot. I don't like this place. Too many memories. But now I have a reason to stay."
  • "You found your mate?" He shook his head. What reason then?
  • "You." After that I didn't ask questions. I'm sure he heard the thoughts that crossed my mind but he didn't say anything. I ate my food in silence until I finished. A blue dress came and picked the dishes. He handed me two blue pills. I looked at him. What was that?
  • "Sleeping pills" I swallowed them. He took me to a large room at the end of the hall. The room was magnificent. Two times bigger than that of the alpha but it felt cold as if it was rarely used.
  • "You may sleep here. Nobody will disturb you."
  • "That won't be necessary. I will go back to my bed."
  • "Please. I insist." I crawled into the bed and sighed at the softness. The pillows held a faint lavender scent. Jairus was still in the room. I heard the sound of his feet moving. The medicine kicked in and I became drowsy. I heard the sound of the doors closing as I drifted off.
