Chapter 4 His Hot Brother

  • Sapphire's POV
  • A group of people were waiting just outside for us. Exotically dressed people. One sexy looking Prima Dona decked with gold came catwalking towards us with a wide beam and I could swear her beauty was blinding. She stretched her hands as we approached.
  • "Oh Lancy! She exclaimed and I stifled the urge to snicker. Lancy? I saw Mr. Pretty man give a soft smile. One which almost looked sincere. He released his hold on me as he embraced her. I was grateful. I didn't know how much more I could take him holding me that way.
  • "Lancy, how many years has it been? Fifteen? Twenty? Wow. I can't remember the last time I saw you"
  • "You don't have to call me that, Aunt Kathy. I'm not twelve anymore. Lance will do just fine"
  • I saw her give a sweet smile.
  • "Wow. My boy's all grown up into a man. You're just as handsome as your father" She gave a slight pause and turned to me. I froze for a moment as I didn't know if I was supposed to say something.
  • "Em…morning ma'am" I managed to stutter while Lance gave me a cold glance like a warning. I needed to compose myself. Aunt Kathy released her hold on him and moved to where I was.
  • "You must be Lauren. I've heard so much about you from my sister-in-law. Oh, you're just like they said, beautiful and innocent to look at. My nephew sure has good eyes. Come now, give your future aunt in law a hug"
  • Oh, she was nice. She pulled me into a warm hug. She smelled so nice. I never expected that someone from the Clawson family would be so nice.
  • I saw Lance walk over to where the others stood and he bowed gently to an old man, one I suspected to be elder Clawson the patriarch of the family. Standing beside him to the right was Lance's mother, Elisa. She was pretty. I could see where Lance got his eyes from. To the left was his father, he was like an older version of Lance. Just as good looking.
  • I could recognize them because Lance had shown me a picture of them. The others there were cousins and uncles and aunts and his sister Pearl. His brother Ronald wasn't here though and I couldn't help but wonder why.
  • Soon fleets of cars arrived and everyone got in. Our next destination, the grand Luxe resort and hotels where our wedding would be taking place. I was seated in the back seat along with Lance whose pretentious smiles of earlier had been wiped off his face. Aside from his aunt Kathy, I couldn't guess how his other relatives were but his mother did seem to give off a rather sly look in her eyes. I couldn't say though. The air between us was so quiet it was beginning to get awkward. Well, it's not like I could initiate a conversation though so I kept put until I slowly fell asleep.
  • Minutes later I felt a sharp slap on my right arm and I opened my eyes to see Lance's annoyed eyes.
  • "Get out" He snapped and alighted the car while I blinked my eyes in confusion. We were already there? I could see the resort's magnificent structures from where I sat. We were here!
  • I adjusted my dress and came down. Our driver helped shut the door and I hurried to keep up with Lance's pace. My legs had begun to hurt because of the heels.
  • "Lance….wait…I…. " My ankle twisted and I fell down.
  • Lance stopped and turned to look at me with a blank expression. He scoffed and turned away when I heard a voice.
  • "You still don't know how to treat a woman right. A real shame I'd say". A cool voice came and I looked up to see another insanely handsome figure towering over me. He looked like....he looked a lot like Lance except he was blonde and a bit shorter. It was his brother, Ronald! He stretched his hand towards me and I took it in gratitude. His hands were soft and gentle. He flashed me a smile afterwards and my heart skipped a beat. It made me flush.
  • "You okay love?
  • "Emm …ye…yes ..I'm fine"
  • He was like an angel.
  • "Forgive my brother. You see Lance has always had an attitude disorder especially towards beautiful women. I'm sure you should know him better since you're his fiancee"
  • "Oh….I.." I looked to Lance whose eyes had gone dark by now. Dark as hell. I saw him take gentle strides to where we were and pulled me away from Ronald in a kind of possessive manner. I gasped. What the hell? He stood between the both of us, his hand gripping at my wrist.
  • "Long time no see…Ronald" His voice came.
  • Ronald smiled.
  • "Come on now Lance, is that how you say hello to your big brother. I mean I haven't seen you in like eight years? It's been a while. I'm surprised to see you honestly"
  • "That's the same thing mother said to me. You both seem rather disappointed" Lance chipped in with a cocky smirk and Ronald gave a gentle laugh trying to moderate his tone.
  • "Not at all. I was just surprised when dad told me you were getting married. I mean the mighty Lance Clawson. Slayer of women. I never expected it"
  • Lance scoffed.
  • "Slayer? Well beats being a simp, right?
  • I saw Ronald's brow furrow at that statement and he forced a smile.
  • "Anyways, I just arrived a few minutes ago. I apologize for not being there to welcome you and your lovely fiance. Well we are all here so we can all spend time as a family together. I'll be off then. It was nice meeting you angel. What is your name?
  • He directed at me and raised his hand for a handshake.
  • "Her name's Lauren. She doesn't talk much" Lance snarled.
  • "Oh tiger, why don't you let her do the talking?
  • "Why don't you mind your god-damned business?
  • Ronald raised his hands in defeat.
  • "Oh k. Man, you've always been so damn hot headed. I guess some things never change. I'll see you at the wedding" Ronald said, flashing me a dazzling smile and walking off.
  • What just happened in front of me? Are these two brothers?
  • "Let's go"
  • Lance pulled me without another word and I had to suck in the pain from my aching ankles. We took the elevator to the top floor where we stopped. Lance had released me by now while I waddled like a duck.
  • He used a key card and the door to a room opened up. It was like a penthouse. The room was exquisite with a king sized bed and a chandelier. It even had a full set dining within and it smelt like rose petals. I shut the door and without another word flung the heels off my feet. I jumped on the soft bed afterwards.
  • "Oh my gosh……aahhhh. Freedom! I thought my ankles were done for! You know you should at least ask me what sort of things I like before getting them for me"
  • He didn't say a word to my comment as he stared through the large glass walls, his hands in his pockets. I sighed. Why was he always like this? His family didn't seem so bad like I had heard but he was like a real statue. Cold and unreadable. The only thing I could sense in him was spite.
  • "Why do you seem so grumpy and angry all the time? Your aunt was pretty nice to me and your brother seemed kind of cool too….
  • I heard him scoff at that junction.
  • "Stay away from him if you know what's good for you" He said as he took off his suit jacket.
  • I shook my head.
  • "You don't seem to think highly of him as a younger brother should"
  • "I see he's caught you interest already" He shot and I creased a brow. Was this jealousy or what? I smirked and folded my hands across my chest.
  • "Why does it sound like you're jealous?
  • He let out a mocking chuckle the next minute and turned to look at me still in his shirt.
  • "Oh, I'm far from jealous honey. Let's just say Ronald is like a blood sucking leech. He has this insane desire to always claim what's mine and ruin it so I'd watch my back if I were you although I don't expect much though, from a daft bitch so the choice is pretty much yours" He snorted afterwards and I frowned.
  • "I'm not daft"
  • "I doubt that"
  • He said and I saw him walk into the bathroom. I sat down deep in thoughts. Why did his words for some reason sound like he was being sincere? However Ronald didn't seem like what he said he was. He didn't seem that way at all.
  • What kind of family was this really?
