Chapter 4 Selling Alcohol Again?
- North City Hospital.
- Yixi finished her shift in the early morning and went to the hospital after only a few hours of sleep. Her dark circles were so heavy that even foundation couldn't hide them.
- She helped Li Jinzhe save money and hurriedly went upstairs. The situation wasn't as bad as she had imagined; the doctor said he would be discharged soon.
- Finally, her life could return to normal. If she continued to stay up all night like this, she might just collapse in their rented room one day.
- Li Jinzhe sat on the edge of the hospital bed, looking much better than before. His complexion was rosy, and he had gained some weight.
- When Li Jinzhe saw Yixi enter, he quickly hid the newly bought phone in his hospital gown pocket.
- "What were you doing last night?" Yixi woke up an hour earlier, cooked braised pork, and put it in a thermos to bring to Li Jinzhe. She also brought two pairs of chopsticks.
- Li Jinzhe paused for a moment, picked up a piece of braised pork with his chopsticks, and put it in his mouth. "What else could I do? Of course, I was lying here. Why are you asking?"
- Yixi licked her pale lips. Compared to Li Jinzhe, she looked more like a patient. "Someone saw you with a girl buying a bag from Hermes. I guess she must have mistaken you for someone else."
- Li Jinzhe chuckled softly. "Hermes? You're overestimating me. I can't afford that!"
- The morning sunlight streamed through the window, casting a golden glow on Li Jinzhe's young face. His smile was gentle and sunny.
- Yixi was captivated. She raised an eyebrow and thought to herself that Li Jinzhe couldn't possibly have that kind of money. Throughout their relationship, he had only given her one bag.
- It was a lollipop and a pack of milk candies stuck together with adhesive tape. Yixi even posted it on her social media.
- "The doctor said I can be discharged next week. I didn't expect to recover so quickly." Li Jinzhe finished the last piece of braised pork.
- Yixi had made enough for two people, but she hadn't eaten because she was in a hurry.
- Seeing that Li Jinzhe had finished all the food in the thermos, not even leaving a piece of meat for her, Yixi wasn't surprised. Li Jinzhe always ate without considering others. After so many years, Yixi had gotten used to it.
- Yixi brushed away the stray strands of hair on her cheek and said, "That's great. Resting at home is better than staying in the hospital. We've finally overcome this hurdle."
- Li Jinzhe's phone, which was in his pocket, suddenly rang. He glanced at Yixi and stood up, saying, "I'm going to the restroom."
- Yixi raised her hand to block Li Jinzhe's way.
- Li Jinzhe looked at Yixi nervously and said, "Why are you blocking me? I need to pee!"
- Yixi put her hand down, thinking that she must have been scared by Fu Tingshen and became mentally confused.
- How could Li Jinzhe possibly answer another woman's call behind her back, especially considering their many years of emotional foundation?
- Looking at it realistically, Li Jinzhe has been sick all along, so how could any girl be interested in him?
- Yixi packed up the insulated lunch box and heard footsteps at the door. She looked up and saw Li Jinzhe's mother, Yang Pei.
- She politely called her "auntie" and glanced at Yang Pei.
- It hadn't been long since they last met, but Yang Pei had already acquired a large gold bracelet.
- Judging by the size of the bracelet, it must have cost at least twenty thousand.
- Yixi casually asked, "Auntie, your gold bracelet is really beautiful. Is it new?"
- Yang Pei pulled her sleeve and covered the gold bracelet, saying, "It's fake. With the current situation at home, how could I afford a real one? Yi Xi, who do you think you encountered last time? The check they gave you was also fake."
- Yixi didn't know where the problem occurred, so she could only casually say, "April Fools' Day, I was fooled."
- Yang Pei didn't say anything more, and the hospital room fell into a silent silence. Yixi and Yang Pei had nothing to talk about.
- Yixi had always known that Yang Pei looked down on her, hoping that her son would find a wealthy girl, someone who could save him from struggling for half his life and have three properties at home.
- Instead of letting her son be with a woman who was abandoned by her parents and still living with roommates.
- Finally, the ringtone of Yixi's phone broke the suffocating awkwardness. She answered the call.
- Someone informed her that she had to go for an audition.
- Without waiting for Li Jinzhe to come out and tell Yang Pei, she said, "Auntie, I'm leaving first. Please tell Jinzhe that I have to go for an audition."
- Yang Pei pretended not to hear and had a somewhat cold attitude.
- Yixi had already gotten used to Yang Pei's attitude and walked out the door.
- Yang Cui sighed at Yixi's back and said, "Why did my son fall for you? Audition? Either playing a maid or an extra, and she has the nerve to call it an audition."
- Li Jinzhe came out of the restroom and found that Yixi had already left. His mother was muttering to herself there.
- Yang Pei complained, "This Yixi, she's such an uncultured person. She always gives me a cold face and doesn't understand any manners. She didn't notice the check incident, did she?"
- Li Jinzhe smiled proudly and said, "How could she possibly figure it out with her intelligence? I'm curious though, where did she get the check from? Just relying on her? Three million, I can't even imagine."
- Yang Pei examined the gold bracelet on her wrist and said, "You still need to stabilize Yixi. Let's wait until she's discharged from the hospital. Maybe Yixi and her family will speak up. Three million is nothing to her parents."
- Li Jinzhe lifted the blanket and lay down on the bed. "Yi's family will never recognize her as their daughter. I saw through it a long time ago."
- Yang Pei's face wrinkled with a smile. "It doesn't matter where the money comes from. Besides the money for your treatment, there's still over two million left. Mom needs to hurry up and find a good girl for you. You and Yixi are not suitable."
- Li Jinzhe remained silent, implying his agreement.
- In the blink of an eye, the day Li Jinzhe was discharged from the hospital arrived.
- Yixi stepped out of the set, and the sunlight outside was dazzling. She put on sunglasses to shield her eyes from the brightness. Her petite face, no larger than a palm, appeared almost translucent under the sun's rays.
- She hailed a taxi and headed to Mingfu Restaurant.
- The Li family had invited everyone to this restaurant to celebrate Li Jinzhe's discharge. The average cost per person here was two thousand dollars.
- Yixi couldn't help but wonder how the Li family had acquired such wealth.
- As Yixi wandered through the restaurant lobby, she couldn't locate the private room that Li Jinzhe had mentioned. She decided to call him, hoping he would come out to guide her.
- Suddenly, a cold and deep male voice came from behind, causing Yixi to feel as if she had stumbled into an icy cave.
- "It hasn't been long since our last encounter, Miss Yi. Are you here to sell alcohol again?" the voice said.
- Yixi couldn't forget that voice.
- She turned around and saw Fu Tingshen, dressed in a suit, emanating a commanding presence, and his gentle voice accompanied by a faint smile!
- However, as Yixi gazed at him, a shiver ran down her spine.
- In that moment, only two words flashed through Yixi's mind: Escape...
