Chapter 30 Vampire's Mockery

• Caleb sat beside Conri looking out the window at the scenery they passed by. The greenery and lush trees swept across as they drove toward their destination. The ride was rather quiet and Caleb wondered if they were this peaceful or everyone is on their good behavior since he was in the car with them. The expressions on their faces were of boredom or irritation, each stared ahead blankly. Returning his attention to the windows just as they drove past a Park filled with Humans, their younglings rushed about the playground giggling and chasing after each other to the next ride, the swings and slide. His eyes followed their little feet with slight interest until they disappeared from his view.
• He knew they were getting close to the Vampire's Den since they enjoyed living close to the humans. The Den was located just below the valley they rode up in. It was a rather large, imposing structure of the grey stone. Caleb could only see a small part due to it being situated so low to the ground, but there was a massive gate that looked to be able to open into the entire property. It was one of the largest gates Caleb has ever seen with its size and width. A large man stood guard outside the gates wearing all white. The sight alone made him uneasy. At the Gates, Dom lowered his window, and the man bent to stare into the car, but Dom quickly ushered him to the back where Conri's window was also rolled down.
• The vampire spotted the Lycan and immediately nodded for the Gates to be opened for them. The man bowed slightly before retreating. The gate swung inward and a cool breeze brushed Caleb's skin sending shivers down his spine. The smell of fresh rain and earth hit his nostrils causing a smile to grace his lips. As they drove further in, Caleb couldn't really see all of the buildings around the area, most of it was hidden behind the surrounding foliage. There were many houses, shops, and businesses scattered about the landscape. He watched intently as Dom maneuvered the cobblestone streets, he spotted a few more humans within the Gates, most going about their daily business. One woman even waved at him before continuing her walk as Dom drove past her and continued toward their destination. 'Are they aware they're living amongst Vampires?' He wondered.
