Chapter 11 You Could Have Taken the Easy Path, but You Chose Hell Instead!

  • Summer felt her heart stop for a moment—the terror had taken over her heart. However, the thought of her son suffering in the hospital at this very moment forced her to muster her courage to look at Edward and ask, “Promise me that you’ll go for the operation in two days.”
  • “Get lost.” Edward’s elegant temperament disappeared completely in an instant—all that was left was his rage.
  • “Charlie cannot afford to wait any longer,” she said uneasily. I have no other choice. I can only beg this man in front of me. She knew that her defiance just now had upset him. Still, didn’t he ignore my wishes in the end and raped me?
  • She was about to speak again when the phone he placed on the table started ringing. Turning around, he picked up the phone right away. He glanced at the caller ID and furrowed his eyebrows together slightly. Then, he coldly said with his back to her, “You have 5 minutes. Get out of here or you won’t be able to save your son anymore!”
  • After saying that, he answered the call while walking toward the other bedroom. “This had better be something important!”
  • Noah was on the other side of the phone. The icy cold voice made his heart clench in fear. Still, he was truly worthy of being the assistant that had worked beside Edward for so many years—it only took him a moment to recover. He hurriedly yet respectfully reported, “I’m sorry, President Barnett. Before you check into the hospital tomorrow, you need to come to the company—”
  • Edward’s voice got further and further away. It wasn’t until the door of the bedroom next door slammed shut that Summer came back to her senses. Although he had not explicitly mentioned that he was going to the hospital, it was implied from his words that he was definitely going to be there! Thus, she wrapped the blankets around her and went into the bathroom in a fluster. Changing into her clothes in the shortest time possible, she hastily left the room.
  • Unbeknownst to her, she had already become the thorn in somebody’s side the moment she stepped into Edward’s presidential suite. In fact, all of her movements were being closely monitored!
  • “Pfft. I never expected the famous Young Master Edward to have such a colorful relationship history. If news of this were to get out, I’d definitely earn a lot of money from it.” Hidden in a dark corner, a wretched man put away his camera and muttered to himself in delight. Even so, he himself knew that the pictures in his camera could not be sold just yet. He watched as Summer disappeared down the corridor, a creepy smile appearing on his face. Taking out his phone, he dialed the number of his financial backer.
  • “How did things go?” As soon as the call connected, he heard a woman’s cold voice coming through the phone.
  • “Haha. It looks like you’re losing your touch. I can’t believe you gave Summer an opening to make her move.”
  • “What do you mean?”
  • “I heard that Old Madam Barnett wants Young Master Edward to have another child. As you know, a powerful family like the Barnett Family needs a healthy child to be its successor.” He looked at the pictures captured in his camera with a triumphant smile curling the corners of his mouth. He might not know what had happened between Summer and Edward inside the room. However, it wasn’t hard to guess that they had been intimate with each other just by looking at Summer’s disheveled appearance and the way she walked.
  • “So?” The woman’s originally dispassionate voice was now mixed with jealousy and rage.
  • “Haha. Young Master Edward and Summer were inside the room for close to four hours. They were alone inside the room. Do I still need to spell out what happened between them for you?” The wretched man didn’t seem to care that his words had angered the woman on the other side of the phone. Rather, he felt as if those words weren’t enough and continued, “It looks like Young Master Edward is preparing to have another child with that woman!”
  • “Shut up!” After saying that, the woman ended the call disgruntledly. She gripped the phone in her hands tightly, and her eyes shone with a savage light. I was careless three years ago. However, I won’t be so careless as to let that woman give birth to Edward’s child again three years later! “Summer Woods, you could have taken the easy path, but you chose hell instead!”
  • The next day, Charles was the only person inside the hospital room when Edward finished his work at the company and arrived at the hospital. Edward frowned, pursing his lips in displeasure. What the hell is Summer doing? How can that damn woman allow this little one to be alone in the hospital ward?
  • Charles subconsciously turned at the sound of the door opening, thinking that his mom had returned. To his surprise, he came face-to-face with Edward’s deep eyes instead. His eyes brightened, but that light was quickly replaced by an indifferent expression.
  • When Edward saw that, a strange yet indescribable feeling seemed to sprout in his heart, growing stronger and stronger. He could tell that the little guy didn’t welcome him. Although the little guy didn’t reject Edward’s presence, he didn’t really want to see Edward either.
  • Still, Edward wasn’t the kind of person to be stopped from doing whatever he wanted—not even if the person trying to stop him was his own son. He strode over to the chair next to Charles’ hospital bed in large steps and sat down. Then, he got straight to the point. “Do you hate me because of your mommy?”
  • After meeting the little guy yesterday, he believed that there was only one reason for this little guy to have this attitude toward him! Surely, it’s because that pretentious woman talked badly about me to him!
  • Charles frowned at those words but said nothing.
  • “Did your mommy tell you many things about me?” Edward asked bluntly, ignoring the little guy’s silence.
  • When Charles heard the question, he immediately understood what Edward was implying. “Mommy has never said anything about you to me before. Don’t slander Mommy.”
  • Although his voice was a little feeble, it was not weak. Edward was very satisfied in that aspect. If only he wasn’t Summer’s child, I’d be even more satisfied. “You hate me,” he said with certainty.
  • “Yes.” Charles did not deny it. His black eyes watched Edward without any fear in them.
  • “Can you tell me why?” Edward asked casually as he placed his hand on his knees. In truth, he was panicking inside because of Charles’ immediate answer. My son hates me, and he even told me so directly.
  • “Tell me; what is our relationship?” Charles countered with another question. However, Summer walked into the hospital ward carrying a kettle before Edward could answer the question.
  • “Charles, were you bored by yourself?” she asked gently as she closed the door behind her. The moment she turned around, she was greeted by the sight of the two figures in the room—one large and one small—looking at her.
  • A smile immediately appeared on Charles’ pale little face when he saw her. “Mommy, he—” He paused and glanced at Edward before continuing, “Daddy said that he will stay here with me tonight. So, you can go home and have a good rest tonight, Mommy.”
  • “What?!” Summer glanced at Edward in surprise upon hearing those words.
  • Similarly, Edward was a little taken aback too. It was just that his expression wasn’t as obvious as hers.
  • “But—” She was just about to say something else when he interrupted her. “That’s right. Since the operation is tomorrow, I will be staying here tonight. You may leave now.”
  • Edward’s voice was as cold as usual and completely emotionless. Then, he walked toward the door without waiting for Summer to reply.
