Chapter 12 Kill You Right Here and Right Now

  • At the Barnett Residence.
  • “Old Madam Barnett, are you worried about the surgery tomorrow?” Sebastian asked respectfully while looking at Rosie, who was sitting in front of the window with a sorrowful expression. Although she had not said anything over the past two days, he had worked for her for so many years. Thus, he could intuitively tell that her emotions were a chaotic mess right now.
  • “Charlie’s operation tomorrow will go smoothly.” Rosie might be gray-haired, but she was still in good health. Despite not revealing her emotions on her face, she gave off a heavy and domineering presence even though she wasn’t angry.
  • “Of course, Young Master Charlie’s operation will definitely go smoothly,” he quickly agreed. Young Master Charlie is such an adorable and considerate child. I’m sure God will bless his operation so that it ends successfully.
  • Unexpectedly, he heard her sighing. “Right now, I’m most worried about Edward. When do you think he will finally make me stop worrying so much about him?” She shook her head helplessly as she spoke. Looking out at the pitch-black night outside the window, she continued solemnly, “Sebastian, did I make a mistake?”
  • He widened his eyes in surprise at those words. He had served by her side for more than 20 years, but he had never heard her saying such discouraging words before. Lowering his head slightly, he respectfully replied, “Old Madam Barnett, Young Master Edward will understand that you’re doing this for his sake.”
  • When Rosie heard those words, she shook her head and did not continue the conversation. Instead, she spoke in a voice that was much gloomier than before. “Tell him that he doesn’t need to come to the operation tomorrow, lest he annoys Edward.”
  • Sebastian nodded at those words before withdrawing from Rosie’s room. He knew who she was referring to without needing to ask. That person was none other than the father of Edward Barnett, the son of Rosie Carter, and the current chairman of the Barnett Corporation—Dylan Barnett.
  • Dylan originally lived in the Barnett Residence. However, he moved out after what happened three years ago and rarely came back to the Barnett Residence again afterward. Even if he did return, Rosie would give him the cold shoulder.
  • They were originally such a harmonious family. But now, they suddenly ended up as the most familiar strangers! The more Sebastian thought about it, the more he felt that it was a great pity. Therefore, he decided not to think about it anymore. He hurriedly went downstairs to call Dylan and convey Rosie’s instructions to him.
  • Something else was occurring concurrently at the hospital—Summer nearly died in the hands of Edward!
  • “Um… I think it’s better if I stay here and take care of Charles tonight. You are also undergoing an operation tomorrow, so you should get more rest,” Summer said in a low voice while looking at Edward, who had walked to the door of the hospital ward. She was trying her best to keep her voice calm to prevent Charles from noticing that something was wrong with her. Thus, she acted as if nothing had happened last night.
  • “Mommy, I’m a big boy. I don’t need you to keep staying by my side all the time.” Charles pretended to furrow his eyebrows sternly as if he was lecturing her.
  • “I’m having an operation tomorrow, so I need to bond with my son.” Edward didn’t even turn around and walked out of the hospital ward after saying that.
  • When Summer saw that, she lightly let out a sigh of relief. Then, she turned to Charles and said, “Charlie, is it really okay if I’m not here tonight?”
  • Charles quickly nodded in response to her words. “Mommy, you will be taking care of me when I finish my operation tomorrow. So, you should rest up properly tonight.”
  • Upon hearing those words, she looked at her son helplessly and nagged at him uneasily again. After that, she finally turned around and went outside to chase after Edward. She followed him to the floor-to-ceiling window outside the hospital ward and stopped.
  • Edward stood there motionlessly. He didn’t look like he had any intention to speak. Similarly, she didn’t say a word either. She didn’t even need to think to know what he was going to say next. I can’t even imagine him saying anything else to me aside from various kinds of insults. So, why should I waste my energy guessing? In any case, we definitely won’t be able to have a peaceful conversation.
  • “Summer Woods, what the hell do you want?”
  • Subconsciously lifting her head at those words, she looked at the expression of the man reflected in the floor-to-ceiling window. His sharp eyebrows were furrowed tightly and his dark eyes were narrowed slightly, gleaming with a cold light. Why is he still asking me this question at this point? Besides, what difference does it make even if he asks? He isn’t going to believe a thing I say anyway, right?
  • “Mr. Barnett, you are going to undergo an operation tomorrow. You should get the hospital to arrange a room for you to rest in as soon as possible.” She closed her eyes and sighed softly. Lifting her eyes again, she met his icy gaze and looked straight into his cold eyes. I’m worried about him staying here. I’m also worried about leaving Charlie alone. “It’s not too late for you to bond with Charlie once he finishes his operation. Both of you need to have a good rest tonight.”
  • She felt that what she said was quite reasonable. However, those words enraged the man for some reason. He turned around abruptly. While she was completely unguarded, he suddenly reached out his large powerful hands and squeezed her slender neck with great force.
  • “Ah!” Summer screamed reflexively. In the next moment, she felt a warm breath against her face followed by a strong pair of hands around her neck! He was gritting his teeth and glaring fiercely at her with narrowed eyes.
  • She could clearly see the raging flames burning in his eyes at that moment—his eyes were no longer cold and indifferent as before. Then, he exerted greater force in his hands. She felt a shudder running through her body as if an electric current was flowing through her, making all the hairs on her body stand on end. Immediately after that, she felt the unbearable feeling of asphyxiation washing over her. It made her reach out and grab at his hands reflexively.
  • “Summer, did you think I’d give you time to talk sh*t about me in front of Charlie? You pretentious woman! I should have realized earlier. You’d even use a young child to achieve your goals! You really amaze me!” His deep and dark eyes were chilly while his perfect and handsome face was tensed dangerously.
  • Meanwhile, she felt as if she was dying under his furious glare. “No! I-I didn’t!”
  • Even when faced with his fury, she still did not wish to be misunderstood. Charlie is my baby—my only hope. How can I use my own child?! Besides, I would never speak badly about him in front of Charlie because… I have nothing to say about him!
  • “E-Edward, let go! Release me!” She kept trying to pull his large hands away from her neck. However, she was a woman. How could she have the strength to win against a man like Edward?
  • “I-I have n-never talked… badly about… you in front of… Charlie before.” It was only a brief sentence. However, it took her several tries to finish it. Moreover, her face was turning red since she couldn’t breathe.
  • “Hah! Never?! Did you think I’d believe what you say? Summer, you should be thankful that Charlie is sick. Otherwise, I’d send you to hell right here and right now!” The cold light in Edward’s eyes flashed as he released his grip on Summer’s neck.
  • As soon as Summer was released from Edward’s hold, she couldn’t help staggering back. Leaning against the wall, she slowly slid down and crouched on the ground while breathing heavily. For a second, she thought she was really going to die!
  • “Summer, I’m taking Charlie with me after the operation!”
