Chapter 2 This Man Is Irritating Me

  • It was in vain.
  • He pulled me by the waist with his strong hands and tried to kiss me.
  • Did he really think it would be that easy?
  • My first reaction was to slap him across the face. The sound was loud enough that my secretary rushed into my office to check if I was okay.
  • In the next moment, I placed my hands on his chest and pushed him away from me, exclaiming with evident anger,
  • "What is this? Did Anabella send you here to seduce me? I don’t understand, this behavior of yours is completely inappropriate... Mr. No-Name!" My shouts echoed down the hallway, and I could feel several pairs of eyes watching me as I stormed past the door.
  • "Did you really think I would be that easy? It’s offensive."
  • I believe he wasn’t expecting this reaction, as he stood there stunned, his hand on his cheek, trying to process what had just happened.
  • I didn’t give him a chance to explain. I just walked with heavy steps through the office toward the bathroom. With trembling hands, I quickly dialed Ana’s number, my body radiating with anger.
  • I had to lean on the sink for a few minutes to catch my breath before continuing. I was so agitated that everyone around me was surprised. This had never happened before.
  • "Mrs. Calleman! Do you need a glass of water?"
  • Elise snapped me out of my thoughts and brought me back to reality.
  • "Elise, thank you. I’m fine!" I hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Can you look into that guy for me? He tried to..."
  • "I understand, Mrs. Calleman. Don’t worry, nothing will slip past me!" She nodded before leaving.
  • As I looked back at the mirror in front of me, I noticed how disheveled my hair was and fixed it. Then, I completed the call I had been about to make earlier.
  • Beep--
  • "Ana! I’m going to kill you!" I said firmly but without raising my voice to avoid drawing more attention from the employees. "What are you up to?"
  • "What do you mean, Elys? I don’t know what you’re talking about..." The mockery in her voice left no doubt that she was behind all of this.
  • "Ana, please. You know I don’t want this. Why are you insisting?"
  • "You’re right, I’m sorry. I’ll tell him to behave, I promise."
  • It couldn’t have been that easy, could it?
  • "I hope so. I just want to focus on my projects, no men, understand?"
  • "Alright."
  • After hanging up, I took one last deep breath before walking back to my office with my head held high. To my surprise, that handsome man was still there, sitting in front of my desk, waiting for my return.
  • When he felt my presence, he quickly turned and said, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause you such discomfort, Miss Calleman."
  • He extended his hand to greet me properly before continuing, "I’m Sky Thompson!"
  • I shook his hand in a gesture of peace, though still embarrassed by what had happened just minutes ago.
  • "Mr. Thompson, I hope we can be good business partners. That’s the only thing that matters to me..." I looked him straight in the eyes. "I know this was some kind of joke from Anabella, and that because you’re very attractive, you think you can seduce me, but..."
  • "Are you always this direct?" he teased. My brow furrowed in confusion—shouldn’t we be frank? "Do you find me attractive?"
  • I was left speechless. I felt my face burn, and it was terrible. I don’t think I remember the last time this happened to me. I’ve never been with a man—is that why?
  • "You look beautiful when you’re flustered..." His gaze was tender, like someone who wanted to take care of you and truly admired you.
  • I know this game.
  • "Mr. Thompson, please..."
  • I froze, completely reactionless. I felt utterly vulnerable in this situation, and it was terrifying.
  • "Alright. Let’s get down to business, and I’ll leave you in peace!" Sky said, pointing to the chair so I could sit and we could discuss business.
  • We spent a few hours sorting out the details and deciding which office he would use—Ana’s old one. We also agreed to organize a gathering for everyone in the company to meet the new executive partner in the business.
  • He would be the one making all the decisions when I wasn’t around, representing our corporation. He would also manage the entire business and oversee the employees in their respective roles.
  • "I think that’s it, Mr. Thompson."
  • I kept writing, avoiding eye contact with his stunning green eyes. Falling for a man was definitely out of the question. I think I’ve repeated it to myself so many times that I might be paranoid.
  • "Mrs. Calleman, I hope there are no hard feelings because of my actions. I truly am sorry."
  • "Okay."
  • After that, he simply stood up and left the room, finally allowing me to release the breath I hadn’t even realized I was holding.
  • What a tiring day.
  • I worked a bit longer on some pending tasks and then drove home to take a relaxing shower and rest. And then, a message.
  • "Mrs. Calleman, I’ve found the man’s background."
  • It was Elise. She sent me a document with all the information she had uncovered about him.
  • His name was Sky Thompson, the son of the largest legal arms dealer in the country. His family owned five incredibly successful companies in different industries, all highly valued across the nation.
  • The question was, why would he buy shares in a book publishing company?
  • With so many brilliant businesses at his disposal, being the only child of his parents and inheriting everything.
  • "Thank you, Elise," I said, pacing back and forth in my robe, lost in thought about this man.
  • How did Anabella get his contact? We didn’t have access to many of the country’s top businessmen—they were completely inaccessible, unreachable.
  • Amid this whirlwind of thoughts I couldn’t decipher, I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t all bad. He could help the company grow globally, not just within the national territory where we were located.
  • That would be great.
  • However, I didn’t expect a rather sordid thought to cross my mind at that moment. I didn’t believe he would leave me alone for long.
  • But if I gave in to him, just for one night, maybe he would sell his shares and leave me alone.
