- The bunker's air was thick with apprehension; the low light created dancing shadows on the walls like ghostly memories of our anxieties. Every sound created my heart race as I could hear the far-off rustle of leaves outside. Though we sought a temporary haven, I knew it wouldn't last very long. Adam still prowled around hunting us.
- Leah was hugging her knees to her chest, settled in a corner with her back against the wall. Her lips moved slowly, and I realized she was attempting to gather the bravery to meet the gloom all around us. Though my own fear was building like a flood, poised to sweep me away, I wanted to reassure her.
