• The sterile smell of the hospital room clung to the air, mingling with the acrid scent of tension. The harsh lights above felt like they were closing in on me, their brightness unforgiving. Outside, the reporters had already caught wind of the drama unfolding within, their voices rising in a chorus of questions and demands for answers. Flashbulbs pierced the cracks of the door, casting brief, harsh bursts of light into the room, as if the world was watching, waiting, for me to make a decision.
• I wanted to hide, to pull the covers over my head and shut out everything, but I knew that wasn’t an option. Not anymore. Not when the weight of the world seemed to press down on me all at once.
