Chapter 10 It's A Good Thing You're Back

  • Upstairs
  • ...knock knock knock...
  • Joel dropped his phone on the bedside table and folded his arms. "Open."
  • He had just ended the call with Noah.
  • A maid bowed her head as she entered the CEO's room before talking. "Sir, this bag… was in the car. Where should I put it?"
  • He stared at the bag. It belonged to the girl.
  • He flicked his hair with his middle finger and sat on his king-sized bed. "Give it to that girl."
  • The maid bobbed her head and turned to leave the room.
  • He frowned. "Wait."
  • The maid turned around instantly, her head to the floor. Had she done something wrong?...
  • "Sir?..." she asked, fidgeting with the bag in her hand as she broke into cold sweats.
  • "Drop the bag on the chair." Joel's cold voice resounded through the room.
  • "N-nd-nde?..." the maid stuttered.
  • Joel's face darkened and the room was soon freezing from his cold aura.
  • "Ah-ahh ye." The maid quickly walked towards the couch in the CEO's room and dropped the bag on it.
  • She bobbed her head and hastily walked out of the room. The atmosphere was so unbearable that she let out a sigh of relief immediately she stepped out.
  • Joel gazed at the bag for a while, he stood up and strolled over to the couch. He carried the bag and unzipped it to check its content:
  • Ugly shirts
  • Stupid long skirts
  • Hideous gowns
  • Stupid earmuffs
  • Cheap perfume
  • Cheap and unpleasant undies
  • And a sort of paper.
  • "Fuck." He cursed under his breath.
  • He zipped up the bag and tossed it on the table, shaking his head.
  • "Those undies are so unpleasant to the eyes." He muttered in disapproval, grimacing.
  • He stood up on his feet and walked out of his room to his study. He needed to work.
  • After working on his computer for a while, he checked the time—12:32am.
  • He shut down the system, rose to feet, stepped out of his study, and took long strides to his room.
  • He had not taken more than five steps when he heard a silent bang downstairs.
  • He stopped in his tracks and listened again—BANG! This time, louder.
  • He furrowed his brows inquisitively and walked silently down the stairs to where the bang was coming from—the kitchen.
  • The door to the kitchen was slightly opened and Joel watched, his eyes twinkling in amusement, as a girl gulped down soju.
  • He didn't see the face of the person, but he knew exactly who it was.No maid would ever do that, and there was just one girl who had an amusing appetite like that—Emily.
  • "Ahhhh..." Emily shook her head in satisfaction as she gulped down the soju.
  • "Mhhmmmn." She grinned.
  • She opened the fridge, took out another soju, and gulped it down her throat.
  • She continued like that till she had five sojus down.
  • 'PA PA PA' Joel clapped his hands after watching her drink the fifth soju.
  • Emily flinched, as she wasn't expecting to get caught. She thought everyone was asleep.
  • She gritted her teeth and turned around, slowly.
  • She widened her eyes at the sight before her. The snobbery handsome god was standing right there, by the door. She hiccuped uneasily. Her legs suddenly went limp and she had to hold the cabinet for support.
  • She watched the handsome god as he gazed coldly at her.
  • Joel pocketed his hands as he stood by the doorway. "Speak."
  • "Mem..ermm..I... I can explain." She stammered.
  • He watched her blankly. "Explain."
  • She scratched her hair in confusion. "It's... it's… I can… erm..."
  • She didn't know what to say.
  • "I'll pay you back." She finally managed to blurt out.
  • No Response
  • She swallowed in fear. "Please..."
  • Who knew what the handsome god was going to do to her.
  • "Tell me what you want… I-I'll do itttt..." She stammered uncontrollably.
  • Something flashed through Joel's eyes as he watched her. He took a step forward, his gaze on the girl unwavering.
  • Emily gulped and took a step back in fear. He took another step forward and she took another backward. He took a step forward again, she, took her's, backward.
  • Her heart was beating faster than normal like it was suddenly going to pop out of her chest.
  • What he was going to do to her, she didn't know. Was he going to hit her...
  • The duo continued to take steps until her back hit the fridge, and she could no longer take any step backward.
  • He was just an inch away from her and their breath was feathering on each other's face very lightly.
  • Joel gazed closely at the girl that was right in front of him as if scrutinizing her.
  • Emily gulped again for the umpteenth time as she peered into the eyes of the cold, dangerous man, before her.
  • There was no way out.
  • Joel smirked. He reached down behind the girl and opened the fridge.
  • He took out a soju, flicked his hair with his finger, and took long strides out of the kitchen.
  • Emily waited for a while, her back against the fridge. After she was sure he had left, she released her breath and exhaled deeply, with her hands on her chest.
  • She slowly tiptoed out of the kitchen to her room.
  • Early the next morning, Emily brushed Little Pumpkin's teeth, bathed him, and dressed him up for school.
  • Her lips curled up in a cute smile as she carried Little Pumpkin into the car. "Little Pumpkin, see you in the afternoon, okay?"
  • "Yes." Little Pumpkin nodded his head happily.
  • His pretty noona was back, he had no reason not to be.
  • "Read your books and obey your teacher okay?" She shut the door.
  • Little Pumpkin nodded his head again obediently. "Yes."
  • "Don't forget to drink the soju, okay?" Emily grinned.
  • Little Pumpkin nodded his head and took a peek at the soju in his hand. "Huhn."
  • "I love you. Fighting" Emily waved her hand and took three steps backward.
  • (A/N: fighting is a word used to cheer people and wish them well)
  • Little Pumpkin's heart was about to pop out of his chest, the really beautiful noona just said she loved him. He'd eat the food she packed for him and drink soju; gain strength, do his best in school and make her proud. Yes!
  • Little Pumpkin waved non-stop at the beautiful noona till the car was out of the villa.
  • Emily also waved at the car till it was out of sight. She turned and headed into the lounge.
  • Michael was just coming out of his room with his eyes on his wristwatch. He was clad in a black suit, his hair was styled to the front, stopping slightly on his brow bones.
  • Emily peered at him as he handed his overcoat over to the nearest maid. He looked so happy—but she knew that underneath his happy face, there was a sad story. She had heard him cry in his room the previous night.
  • Michael looked up and saw her. "Emily."
  • Emily zoomed out of her thoughts and quickly bowed her head. "Ahhh, annyeonghaseyo."
  • "Annyeong." Michael's lips curled up in a cute smile as he walked towards her.
  • "It's a good thing you're back. Thank you." He patted her arm gently.
  • "Ahhh, yes." Emily bowed shortly but respectfully.
  • "See you later. I'm late." He smiled and headed out of the lounge.
  • Something flashed through Emily's eyes. She quickly ran to the kitchen and packed the other lunchbox. She took a soju from the fridge and ran after Michael.
  • "Oppa," Emily called after him.
  • (A/N: oppa means elder brother. It's used by a female)
  • "Uhm?" Michael turned back and watched as Emily ran towards him.
  • "I prepared this for you, please eat well when you get to the office. You look lean." She pouted her lips.
  • "I do?" He asked, startled.
  • He looked down at himself and furrowed his brows. 'Am I lean?'
  • He then chuckled. "Okay, I will."
  • He collected the bag from her and got in the car.
  • Emily smiled and waved till the car was out of sight.
  • "Pshht" Michael chuckled in the car as stared at the lunchbox lying on the chair beside him.
  • He smiled. "That girl..."
  • Emily nodded her head satisfactorily and skipped happily into the lounge. She was still smiling when she heard slow, soft footsteps on the steps.
  • She took a peek at the stairway and gulped.
  • Without being told, she knew who was coming down the stairs. She knew who those soft,lazy-like footsteps belonged to—The Handsome God.
  • She froze on a spot and her smile vanished instantly.
  • Joel climbed down the stairs gracefully like he owned the world. When he got to the foot of the stairs, he flicked his hair.
