- SHIMMA’S POV:
- I yawned, gently opening my eyes to the morning sun.
- I felt Mattias's hand wrap around my belly as he cuddled me tightly. He was still fast asleep, but as soon as I tried to get up, he pulled me closer.
- “Good morning, baby,” he said softly, kissing me behind my neck.
- “Good morning, sorry I didn’t mean to wake you up,” I whispered, but he smiled. “You didn’t.”
- He pulled me even closer, his lips finding mine as he began to kiss me deeply.
- “Hmmmn,” he groaned, deepening the kiss as his hand began to trace down my chest. But I pulled away from our kiss, whispering to him, “My parents.”
- For the first time ever, I woke up next to Mattias in my parents' house. It felt so surreal. But having sex with Mattias here wouldn’t be comfortable for me.
- But I don’t think that was a problem for Mattias, because he took my lips in his again, whispering softly into my mouth, “We’ll be quiet?”
- His hand found my face, cupping it as he deepened the kiss.
- I kissed him back, running my hands through his hair. But then came...
- “Knock! Knock!” A loud knock, just as I expected.
- “Breakfast is ready, sleepyheads!” my mum yelled.
- I turned to Mattias, meeting his eyes as he was staring at me. I smiled, staring back at those beautiful eyes of his. And at that moment, the realization of everything began to sink in.
- In a few months, my dad’s best friend was going to be my husband. And nine months later, I was going to give birth to our child.
- A few months ago, I would have never thought this was going to be possible, despite everything that tried to pull us down. We finally overcame it.
- “I love you,” I whispered softly to him.
- “I love you more… more than life,” he said. Slowly, he began to lean in for another kiss. But something made us jolt back in fear.
- “Arghhh!!!” A loud scream came from downstairs. It was unmistakably my mother's voice, but what was going on?
- Hurriedly, we both got dressed, making our way downstairs to the living room, where the noise was heard.
- “Mum!” I screamed, unable to understand why my father was lying on the floor unconscious.
- “Mum, what’s wrong? Father!” I yelled, terrified at the sight of him.
- “Derry? Derry, wake up,” Mr. Mattias tapped on my father, but he wasn’t responding.
- “Mum, talk to me. What happened?” I said, my breath heavy as tears began to stream from my eyes.
- “I—I don’t know. He was about to take his seat in the dining room when he fell and lost consciousness. He didn't slip or anything, he just held his chest and fell,” my mum said. Terrified.
- “We need to call the ambulance now. Or no, Shimma, get my car keys. I’ll have to rush him to the hospital now,” Mr. Mattias said.
- I got up, tears blurring my vision as I made my way upstairs. I could feel my heart pounding heavily, almost to the point of jumping out of my chest.
- “Please, God, let Dad be okay, please,” I kept praying in my heart as I shakily grabbed the keys and headed back downstairs.
- ...
- We arrived at the hospital, where they rushed my father into the emergency room.
- Luckily, his pulse was still responding because Mr. Mattias had checked it earlier. But how did everything go from being so good to getting so bad?
- Seeing my dad yesterday, he seemed perfectly fine. How would he go unconscious just like that? As far as I knew, he wasn’t sick or anything.
- We all waited patiently for the doctor to tell us what was going on because we were all clueless, and it was driving me insane.
- “It’s okay, Shimma, he’s going to be fine,” Mr. Mattias said, pulling me close as he wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tightly. His words felt like reassurance to not just me but himself.
- My dad was his best friend, and I was certain he was as scared as I and my mother.
- I turned to glance at my mother, crying bitterly. Her eyes were red and swollen. The sight of her alone made my heart sink deeper. All I wanted at that moment was for my dad to be okay.
- Please, God...
