- I woke up to silence, but it wasn’t peaceful. The room felt like it was holding its breath, and so was I. I sat on the edge of the mattress, fingers digging into my knees. Adam was at the small table by the window, gun in pieces, methodically cleaning it. He hadn’t said a word since last night.
