Chapter 4 Being With You Makes Him Feel Disgusted

  • “Lynn, do you know that everyone in the company is counting on this core technology to take the company public?”
  • As soon as these words were spoken, several shareholders around me immediately started murmuring.
  • “Now that the core technology has leaked, how can the company go public?”
  • “I never expected that Miss. Miller would be such a person.”
  • “All our efforts over the past three years have been in vain!”
  • The sounds of lamentation surged toward me like a tidal wave.
  • Only then did I realize what had happened.
  • Someone was deliberately framing me.
  • But—
  • It’s one thing for others to suspect me, but what right does Kevin have to accuse me?
  • Thinking of this, I laughed in disbelief, looking at Kevin as if he were a stranger.
  • “Kevin, do you think I’d be stupid enough to ruin my own investment?”
  • “Others may not know, but don’t you know I’m the largest shareholder of this company? What reason would I have to do this?”
  • To help Kevin establish himself in the company, I had concealed the fact that I was the largest shareholder, willingly taking on the role of vice president.
  • So, the shareholders didn’t know that I actually held the most shares.
  • Kevin furrowed his brow and glanced nervously at the shareholders behind him.
  • He pulled me aside, lowered his voice, and whispered, “Lynn, didn’t we agree not to bring up that matter in the company?”
  • I remained silent, staring at him expressionlessly.
  • Kevin’s tense brow gradually relaxed. His tone softened, no longer aggressive, but coaxing. “In a situation like this, no one can stay calm. I was impulsive—please don’t be angry.”
  • “Let’s do this: go home and rest for a few days. I’ll take care of everything.”
  • He spoke as though he were being considerate, but in truth, he was just afraid I’d be pushed too far and reveal the fact that he wasn’t the primary shareholder.
  • I ignored him and walked away.
  • But I underestimated the depths of his shamelessness.
  • The next day, Kevin approached me with a serious expression.
  • “Lynn, the shareholders are raising a fuss. They’re insisting you hand over your shares. Otherwise, you might as well...”
  • I was trimming potted plants on the balcony. When I heard that, the scissors snapped shut, severing the branch, which dropped to the tiles with a sharp sound.
  • Kevin’s face darkened, and his tone turned impatient. “I’m doing this for your own good. Once the storm passes, I’ll return the shares to you.”
  • I’d thought cheating was the worst thing he could do, but I hadn’t expected him to go after my business too.
  • Maybe the theft was orchestrated by him all along—his goal, to kick me out before the bet agreement matured.
  • I sneered, my tone calm but firm. “I didn’t do this, so why should I give up my shares? If you can’t handle it, I will—as the company’s largest shareholder.”
  • Kevin’s face alternated between pale and flushed, his mask finally cracking.
  • “Lynn! I’m not here to negotiate—I’m informing you. You must hand over the shares within a week!”
  • With that, he stormed off.
  • I calmly resumed trimming the branches.
  • The blade glinted in the sunlight as my fingertips brushed the newly cut stem.
  • Some things grow too wildly and must be pruned.
  • The next day, I arrived at the company, and Tiffany stepped into my office in high heels.
  • Her aggressive demeanor wasn’t that of a secretary—it was more like someone coming to issue threats.
  • “What are you here for?” I glanced at her, continuing to flip through the documents.
  • “I should be asking you that!”
  • With Kevin absent, Tiffany dropped all pretense of innocence. Standing with her hands on her hips, she snapped, “Didn’t Kevin tell you to hand over the shares? Why are you still showing up here?”
  • Kevin?
  • They seemed rather close.
  • I looked up at her delicate face and sneered. “I’m still the vice president of this company. Whether I show up or not is none of your business, especially not yours—a secretary.”
  • Tiffany’s face turned pale for a second, but she quickly recovered with a sneer.
  • “Lynn, you’re so selfish. You’re willing to jeopardize the whole company just to compete with me for a man. Do you even deserve to be vice president?”
  • I leaned back slightly, sizing her up. “Maybe I don’t. But do you? Don’t forget who holds the most shares in this company.”
  • Tiffany knew I was the largest shareholder.
  • If she weren’t, the heiress of the Clark Group would’ve already taken over instead of settling for being the mistress.
  • “You just want to use your shares to control Kevin,” she said with a curled lip. “But you know what? The one who can hold him physically can’t keep his heart. Kevin has long wanted to break off the engagement. He doesn’t love you at all.”
  • My hand slowly clenched.
  • Her words pierced deeper than any blade.
  • Tiffany leaned in, her red lips curling as she whispered like a devil in my ear, “Kevin told me himself. Every day with you makes him feel disgusted.”
  • Smack—
  • A slap.
  • Tiffany’s eyes widened.
  • Before she could say anything, I slapped her again.
  • Then I looked at her, expression cold. “What? Not happy?”
  • Tiffany’s eyes turned red with rage. She clenched her fists, about to strike back when—
  • “What’s going on here?” Kevin’s voice came from the door.
  • Tiffany immediately dropped her hand and rushed to his side, her anger morphing into pitiful tears.
  • “Mr. Brown, I only asked Miss Miller to hand over the shares. She refused... and then she slapped me...”
  • Her voice was soft and trembling. Watching her performance, I nearly rolled my eyes.
  • Seeing Tiffany’s flushed cheek, Kevin’s expression twisted with anger.
  • “Lynn! How could you hit someone? Apologize!”
  • Apologize?
  • That was the funniest joke I’d ever heard.
  • Suppressing the disgust bubbling inside me, I gave a cold smile.
  • “Do you have proof that I hit her? Or are you going off her word alone?”
  • Kevin’s face darkened further, his eyes flashing with disgust. “Her face looks like that, and you’re still denying it? Lynn, you weren’t like this before!”
