Chapter 10 FiancéE?
- "It's okay, if you want to cry, go ahead. I can pretend I didn't see it."
- Kris handed me a cup of iced Americano, looking at me gently as he spoke. The smile on his lips made me feel relaxed involuntarily.
- I smiled and took the cup of iced Americano, but my fingertips accidentally touched Kris's warm fingertips.
- "Losing anyone will not be my loss, only theirs. But I'm not in the mood right now. Can we talk somewhere else?"
- Kris was different from what I had expected; he looked gentle and refined.
- "If you don't mind, Miss Miller, could you lead the way?"
- Surprisingly, Kris was easy to talk to.
- Perhaps because we had met before, I always felt that there was less restraint between us than when we first met.
- As we walked out of the restaurant, Kris was stopped by someone.
- "Kris Davis? Is it really Mr. Davis? It's indeed Mr. Davis! Nice to meet you!"
- I looked over and recognized the person—Fred Clark, the head of the Clark Group and Tiffany's father.
- Although I didn't have a good impression of the Clark family, I had no reason to delay their conversation.
- But to my surprise, Kris looked at me, then at Fred Clark.
- "Sorry, who are you? My fiancée and I have something to do; please don't block our way."
- I looked at Kris in astonishment. How come I didn't know I had become his fiancée?
- "Oh, yes, of course. Our Clark family is not worthy of your attention. We just wanted to give Mr. Davis a chance to get to know us, so that we can have some cooperation in Vanderholt..."
- Fred tried to please, but I raised my eyebrows, not interested in hearing more, so I decided to step aside and let them finish their conversation—
- Just as I was about to move aside, Tiffany's sharp voice came, and she grabbed Fred's arm.
- "Dad! Didn't I tell you that Kevin and I are across the street! Why are you... Lynn? What are you talking about with my dad? Are you not satisfied with seducing one person? Now you want to focus on my dad too?"
- I was really wronged. I hadn't said a word since I came out, but Tiffany had already labeled me with another accusation.
- Just as I was about to speak, Kris stood directly in front of me.
- "I thought we could negotiate about doing business, but I didn't expect your daughter to slander my fiancée like this. I think it's better to forget about it."
- Kris's tone was no longer as gentle as when he was talking to me. Now his tone was harsh, making me shiver involuntarily. He even emphasized the words "fiancée" to show his support for me.
- "Lynn Miller is your fiancée? Are you kidding me? I just saw her having dinner with an old man. And who do you think you are? How dare you talk to my father like this? Do you know the status of the Clark family in Vanderholt? Dad! He just teamed up with Lynn to bully me and Kevin. If it wasn't for Kevin protecting me, you probably wouldn't see your daughter again!"
- Tiffany spoke, not forgetting to show Fred the slap mark on her face.
- I couldn't help but laugh. Turning white into black, not even bothering to make up a lie?
- Fred quickly pulled Tiffany behind him and bowed to Kris.
- "I'm sorry, Mr. Davis. I haven't taught my daughter well and disturbed your and your friend's interest. I'm really sorry!"
- Tiffany wanted to say something, but Fred covered her mouth tightly, apparently afraid that his foolish daughter would ruin the future of the Clark Group.
- "Fred... right? Keep your family's mouths in check, or... there are probably many people in Vanderholt waiting for the Clark family to fall so they can benefit. I don't mind speeding up this process."
- Fred was shocked and quickly nodded and apologized, then scolded Tiffany and Kevin.
- "You two fools! This is Mr. Kris! Why would you provoke Mr. Davis? You must have done something to upset him! Apologize now! Can Mr. Davis be offended by us?"
- Tiffany glared at me with hatred, while Kevin looked at Kris with a probing gaze.
- Even though they were reluctant, they now knew Kris was not someone they could afford to provoke, so they had to apologize sincerely.
- "No need to apologize to me. They insulted my fiancée, so if they want to apologize, it should be directed towards my fiancée."
- I thought it had nothing to do with me, but I didn’t expect Kris to be waiting for me. Seeing the smile in his eyes, how could I not understand that he was venting his anger on my behalf?
- I was happy to see this couple groveling in front of me, so I stood there, waiting for Tiffany and Kevin to apologize to me.
- “Apologize to you?”
- Tiffany was no longer pretending. She used to be a pitiful, pure, and innocent secretary with tears in her eyes. Now she is a proud young lady, making it really difficult for her to apologize to me.
- Kevin was even more unwilling. He used to look down on me for not providing better assistance, then complained I was too controlling. Now, after latching onto the Clark family's thigh, he was being asked to apologize to me—it was more unbearable than killing him.
- But Kris didn’t care whether they were willing or not.
- He raised his hand slightly, and immediately two strong bodyguards forced the two to bend at the waist.
- “I have a bad temper and no patience. If you drag out your apology, my men will help you... Mr. Clark won’t mind, right?”
- Kris’s presence was chilling; even in the scorching heat of June, one could feel the low pressure around him. Fred wiped sweat from his forehead and shook his head repeatedly.
- “Of course not.”
- Seeing this, Kris directly pulled me into the Rolls-Royce I had rear-ended.
- Kevin, who had been silent all along, suddenly rushed toward me as if he had gone mad...
