Chapter 9 An Important Guest
- Aralyn stopped and turned around, looking annoyed. "What favour?"
- Marc said, "In three days, it's Valentine's Day. I'd like you to sing a few songs for my wife."
- Aralyn was stunned. Sing for his wife? And a few songs?
- Has he lost his mind? Who even asks for that?
- "Marc, just because I used to have a crush on you doesn't mean you can ask anything of me."
- Aralyn's face was filled with anger.
- "Do you think someone like me would sing for your wife? Next time, think before you speak!"
- Marc's face darkened. "You will agree."
- Aralyn snorted, rolled her eyes, and walked away, shaking her head.
- She makes tens of thousands of dollars every minute and is not interested in wasting time with someone who isn't too bright.
- The classmates held back their laughter, baffled by Marc's request.
- Even though they were classmates, he was being way too presumptuous.
- Asking a top-tier star to sing for an average person? What was he thinking?
- "Marc, you went a bit too far there. No wonder Aralyn got mad," Gideon said, pulling him back to his seat with a sigh.
- Marc shrugged, not bothering to explain.
- Just then, his phone rang. It was Iris.
- "Hey, Darling, what's up?" Marc answered.
- "Where are you? Grandma's hosting a dinner at home and wants everyone to be there."
- Iris sounded urgent, not even batting an eye when Marc called her 'Darling.'
- "I shouldn't go. They'll pick on you because of me," Marc replied.
- Iris sighed. "I don't want to bring you either, but Grandma said an important guest is coming. Everyone has to be there, or it'll seem rude."
- Marc frowned. An important guest? Could it be Magnus?
- "Alright, I'll come home now," he agreed quickly and hung up.
- If Mary insisted, he'd better go. Otherwise, she'd give Iris a hard time.
- "I've got to go, everyone. Family emergency," Marc said, standing up and waving goodbye.
- The classmates didn't care much, waving him off nonchalantly.
- Gideon said, "Marc, I won't see you out. Do you need some money for a cab?"
- Marc shook his head. "No need, I'll manage."
- He took out his phone and called Eagle. "Send a car to pick me up. I'll send you my location. Hurry."
- The classmates were stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing again.
- Pauper was really overdoing it with the act.
- Calling for a car to pick him up, like he's Aralyn or something, thinking he gets a private ride wherever he goes?
- "Hahaha, Pauper, I gotta hand it to you. Calling for a car, huh?
- "What car? A tractor?
- "Yeah, that'd be slow as hell. We'll be done by the time it gets here!"
- Darielle exaggeratedly clutched her stomach, her tone laced with sarcasm as she mocked.
- "Marc, the food's about to come out. Sit down and eat something.
- "Finish eating before you keep showing off, haha."
- Gideon pulled Marc back to his seat, laughing.
- Marc is still up to his tricks.
- Everyone knows each other here. Is there a need to put on such a show?
- Marc didn't say anything. It would take Eagle some time to get here, so he might as well eat.
- Forty minutes later, Marc's phone rang.
- Gideon tried to suppress his laughter. "Is your chauffeur here?"
- Marc said, "He should be."
- Everyone burst into laughter again.
- "Alright, enjoy your meal. I have to go,"
- Marc finished the call, stood up, and left the private room.
- The door wasn't even fully closed when a man's voice from outside shouted.
- "Holy crap! There's a stretched Rolls-Royce parked at the villa entrance. Come check it out!"
- The entire private room fell silent, laughter abruptly halting.
- Everyone exchanged glances, wearing expressions of disbelief.
- "Um ... that Rolls-Royce, could it be Marc's?" Darielle asked, wide-eyed and stuttering.
- "Oh my, let's go outside and see!" Gideon exclaimed urgently, rushing out of the room like a flash.
- "Come on, let's go check it out too!" Others couldn't sit still either, quickly getting up and running out of the room.
- Sure enough, there was a black Rolls-Royce parked at the entrance of the villa—a stretched version of the Phantom, nearly nine meters long!
- Outside, hundreds of people stood around, watching with their phones out, capturing videos while murmuring in awe at Marc's figure walking away.
- "Who is this guy riding in such a luxurious car? It's so impressive!"
- "I saw this car online. It's custom-made, not mass-produced."
- "Oh my god, how much does that cost?"
- "Over 15 million dollars! There are fewer than three in the whole country!"
- Marc's classmates stood among the crowd.
- Upon hearing the discussions among the crowd, they couldn't help but swallow nervously, their hearts roaring with excitement and shouts of admiration!
- Marc, has he really risen this high?
- They all thought he was still that poor loser, but it turns out he's practically untouchable now!
- Gideon's eyes widened in disbelief, feeling incredibly embarrassed.
- He had just been bragging to his classmates about his car, worth over 150 thousand dollars.
- Now, his face burned with shame.
- His car wasn't even in the same league as Marc's ride!
- "Darielle, let's not make fun of him anymore. Marc's background is terrifying." Gideon nudged Darielle, his voice trembling.
- Darielle's jaw nearly hit the floor. She nodded dumbly. "Got it ... got it."
- An hour later, Marc arrived home. Inside, Iris's family was already prepared, just waiting for him.
- "Why didn't you come back tomorrow morning? Do you know what time it is?" Mirabel snapped.
- "Alright, Mom, he's back now. Let's get going,"
- Iris tried to smooth things over and then turned to Marc. "Try not to say much when we get there."
- Marc shrugged. "Okay."
- "Wait, he's going in those clothes?"
- Mirabel pointed at his outfit. "What is that, a curtain? He'll be a laughingstock!"
- Cassian said, "Forget it. What he wears doesn't matter.
- "We're just there as guests. It wouldn't change anything even if he wore a royal robe."
- Mirabel rolled her eyes. "Do whatever you want. We've embarrassed ourselves enough over the years."
- The Cokes's mansion was bustling.
- All members of the Cokes had arrived early, dressed impeccably, gazing with reverence at the young man seated at the head of the table.
- As Marc suspected, the young man was Magnus.
- After meeting Magnus, Oriel immediately informed Mary.
- Mary was so thrilled that she couldn't wait to organise this banquet, preparing to receive her future grandson-in-law with the highest honour.
- "Mr. Quinton, it's an honour for our entire family that you chose my granddaughter.
- "Let me toast to you."
- Mary beamed, raising her glass respectfully.
- Before Magnus could respond, the maid led Iris's family in.
- "Sorry, Grandma, we're late," Iris said softly.
- Mary's face instantly turned sour.
