Chapter 5 Her Prince Charming
- Isabelle could not contain her smile as she sat at the back of the limousine hearing back home. The night had been a success. She had met with the wealthy Maxton Joseph and for some crazy reasons, he was intrigued by her. He had even asked for her number and she got his as well. All she had to do was continue with the pretence, who knew, maybe he was all over her already.
- "Thank you so much for tonight, sir!" She told the driver as the vehicle came to a stop in front of the boutique.
- "You are welcome!" He said before zooming off.
- Isabelle walked into the building, using the back door. She went straight to the room above. It was already past midnight and she thought Teja was already asleep so she tried to make as little noise as possible so she wouldn't wake her.
- She took off the sandals and walked on her tiptoes as she made her way to the room. But as soon as she pushed the door open, Teja snapped her eyes open.
- "Hey, you are back?" She said in a sleepy voice.
- Isabelle wanted to wave her back to sleep but Teja was already on her feet. The sleep seemed to have vanished from her eyes. "Let's take down that dress and you can give me the details as I clean it up!" She said coming toward Isabelle.
- "You know you can go back to bed and let me do this right?" Isabelle asked her.
- "Naah, we have to be careful with the tags and besides, I am up already. How did it go?" She repeated as she got close enough to Isabelle.
- Isabelle resigned and turned around so she could pull down the zip. "It was amazing," she said dreamily.
- "Hmmm, did you find your prince charming?" Teja asked turning to see Isabelle's face. "You seem too excited."
- Isabelle chuckled. "Well, something like that but then, I am not too certain yet. Let's just wait and see how it all goes."
- "It will go well. It has to. It will be a double win for you! Especially if he turns out to be very rich. You will be getting a lot of help from him. Rich people spoil their girlfriends!" Teja said with a lot of excitement while Isabelle only smiled sheepishly. She had mastered the act of bottling her true emotions within her, so it was easy for her to hide the sudden changes her heart made whenever Teja said something that reminded her of her lies.
- Teja had completely taken off the dress and she turned on the dryer. As she was about to start cleaning the dress, she suddenly stopped as an idea came to her, "Wait a minute, did you tell him your real identity? This might be a test from that lady that gave you this job you know?"
- Isabelle had moved to the dressing table where she was taking out her makeup. "No, it isn't," she said confidently. That man was too into her to have been a spy. Besides, the real Belle Fairmont couldn't have asked a man as wealthy as Maxton to do such a job for her. It made zero sense.
- "Since you are certain, then it's fine," Teja said as she started the cleaning. "So who is this man anyway?"
- Isabelle was about to reply when her phone started ringing. She jumped off her seat and went to snatch the phone from where she had dropped it. Most times, her phone only rang when there was an emergency with Landon. She barely had any friends since her life was always a blur. But as she picked up the phone it was an unknown number.
- With a raised brow, she swiped to the accept icon anyway, "hello?" She breathed.
- "Belle," he said in that voice of his that made her legs turn into jellies.
- Isabelle recognised the voice at once. She sat on the bed and pulled the phone closer to her ear. "Maxton," she whispered as she suddenly went breathless. From the corner of her eye Teja had frowned but Isabelld ignored her. "Did you get home quick enough?" She thought to ask.
- "Yes, I did. I expect the same happened at your end?"
- Isabelle pulled a strand of her hair and rolled it on her finger. Pretending to like this man was not going to be hard at all —she thought.
- "It was quick. Thanks for asking." She sounded so prime and proper, that one would think she went to the London School of royals or something.
- Maxton was not the kind of man to beat around the bush. It was not every day, that he met a woman that made his heart beat the way Isabelle had done. He would be a fool to let her slip out of his fingers.
- "I want us to meet tomorrow," Maxton stated.
- Isabelle felt her heart skip a beat in excitement. The billionaire wanted to spend time with her? Amazing.
- She wanted to say she would be free but refrained from it. She had to act her part out well. She had to make it seem like she was busy. If she was too quick to accept his demands, he might start suspecting her.
- "I have some errands to run for my father tomorrow, how about Sunday?" She asked and this time Teja stopped what she was doing altogether and stared at her with a thousand silent questions.
- "What part of town would you be running the errands, I will send someone to pick you up when you are done," Maxton insisted.
- Isabelle's heart skipped a beat for she feared her cover would be blown. What address would she give him now?
- "I will send you a location," Isabelle said breathlessly.
- "Good," Maxton replied.
- The call ended soon after that and Isabelle had to face a very confused-looking Teja.
- "What sort of game are you playing?" She asked as she came to sit on the edge of the bed.
- Isabelle tucked the strand of hair she had been playing with behind her ears and smiled at her cousin. "Don't worry. I have everything under control," she said with a serious face.
- Deep down, Isabelle knew she had nothing under control. She had lied again. Her entire plan was falling apart before it even started.
