Chapter 6 My Baby

  • Ling Yan looked into Qiao Yunmo's eyes. “If I give her my kidney, will you leave my father and me alone?”
  • “No problem.” His lips slightly curved. “Once she recovers, I'll let you go.”
  • Was this going to be the end?
  • Would the debt be paid off at the cost of her kidney and their baby?
  • “If possible.” Ling Yan smiled. “I wish I'd never met you.”
  • It took Qiao Yunmo some time to process her words. When he turned to her again, she had already left. She was nothing like the woman she was before. But it would not be his concern anymore since she should be out of his life soon.
  • More health tests needed to be done before the surgery, so Ling Yan managed to call her father and Jing Haozhi.
  • “Thanks, for everything,” she said to Jing Haozhi over the phone.
  • “Did he agree to let you go?” he asked.
  • “Yes.” Ling Yan nodded. When realizing that he couldn't see her nod, she added, “After I donate my kidney to Wen Runan, I'll be free.”
  • Ling Yan tried to make herself sound relaxed as if giving away a kidney was as easy as treating a cold.
  • “Donating your kidney?!” Jing Haozhi's reaction was unexpectedly violent. “No, you can't! I have something extremely important to tell you. Please wait for me there. Please.”
  • Then, he hung up before Ling Yan could respond.
  • “Miss Ling, shall we proceed?” a nurse called her name and inquired.
  • Ling Yan looked at her phone and nodded. She could do the tests and wait for him at the same time.
  • Jing Haozhi arrived just after she finished. He seemed to be out of breath and very anxious.
  • “Miss Ling.” A trace of hesitation flashed in his eyes. “There's something I need to tell you.
  • “Your baby is still there.
  • “So, I think you might want to reconsider whether or not you want to proceed with the donation.”
  • Ling Yan's eyes flashed, and she grabbed his wrist.
  • “What did you just say?” she asked softly, afraid of disturbing this heavenly moment.
  • Jing Haozhi explained with sympathy, “Your baby is safe. The medicine I gave them was not for abortion.”
  • He was a doctor, and he just couldn't bring himself to do something as cruel as that. He had planned to tell them the truth when things came to a close. However, the situation was getting more complex.
  • The baby was still there. This piece of news was earth-shattering for her, and she couldn't be more grateful. However, it also meant that for the safety of the baby it was impossible to give her kidney away to someone else.
  • Without a second thought, Ling Yan ran towards Wen Runan's ward.
  • “Qiao Yunmo.” Ling Yan panted. “I can't do it.”
  • Qiao Yunmo frowned and asked fiercely, “Are you going back on your own words?”
  • “No... I'm sorry, but I just can't.” Considering how badly he wanted to get rid of their baby, she couldn't tell him the truth.
  • “This is very, very important.”
  • “Important?” Qiao Yunmo looked at the woman lying on the bed. “More important than her life?
  • “Let me tell you this. I don't care what this important reason is. You are going to give her the kidney.”
  • “Nurse!” He was tired of this endless argument and called in two nurses. “Take her to the operating room.”
  • “No. No. Please don't, Qiao Yunmo.” Ling Yan drew back in panic, yet Qiao Yunmo had lost his patience.
  • A cold liquid was injected into her body, and soon she started to feel dizzy.
  • “Yunmo… Please don't,” she murmured. The sight of the busy doctors and nurses blurred and danced before her eyes.
  • “Yunmo, our baby…”
  • Eventually, she dozed off.
  • Ling Yan's tears dropped on the ground soundlessly, leaving marks of sadness and hopelessness.
