Chapter 4 The Alpha's Pack

  • Veda's POV:
  • The moment I slipped inside the car, I realized that Rowan hadn't exaggerated about territory.
  • The smell is more than just luxury and designers. It drowned me with dominance.
  • Power.
  • Silverbane pack is as rich as expected of a pack ranked third in Luna City, but judging from the interior of the car alone, I could tell that I was about to witness another level of wealth.
  • The scent hits me next.
  • Layered with cedar ash..... The kind that warns wolves not to challenge the Alpha.
  • The door shut slightly behind me with a soft click. Suddenly, the city noise faded, replaced by the muted hum of the car.
  • Rowan slid into the seat beside me, leaving enough space to be polite.
  • But I knew it was just for show. If Rowan Blackwell wants to do something to me, a mere measly space wouldn't stop him.
  • The car pulled into a private road lit with silver lampposts that glowed with faint runes— protection runes.
  • No words were exchanged at first.... I thought it was because Alpha Rowan Blackwell doesn't do casual conversation, not until he spoke.
  • "Do you know who wishes you dead?" Alpha Rowan asked, shocking me.
  • Why would he ask that out of nowhere?
  • My red lipstick coated lips pulled into a smile. I took a quick glance at him and shrugged.
  • "I could say it's my adopted sister who wants my chosen mate for herself... Or rather just wanted to frustrate me," I began, my second right-hand finger tapping on my jaw in deep thought.
  • "Or it could be the whole Blackthorn. Why? Probably to take my 30% share of the pack and leave me bare."
  • Since I returned to the pack with a lost memory, I noticed that something was wrong.
  • My supposed family had indeed replaced me with a fake.
  • Our eyes locked. Rowan watched me calmly, a blank expression on his face.
  • "So, you're the future Alpha of Silverbane pack." He said to himself and I nodded.
  • "I can help you make sure Silverbane pack regrets every mistreatment of you. I can also cure the poison," Rowan paused, grabbing the same embroidered handkerchief he had given to me earlier, he leaned closer and dabbed the handkerchief on my forehead.
  • Embarrassing! My face flushed. The sweat on my face betrayed my strong front.
  • "Have you found your fated mate yet?" He asked calmly again.
  • In Luna City, you can only find your mate every red moon.
  • The last red moon was three years ago and, I was still missing at that time.
  • "No," I replied, a bitter taste in my mouth. "Have you?"
  • I want to find my fated mate, and at the same time find out what happened when I went missing for seven years, while simultaneously dealing with the Blackthorns'.
  • Everyone who hurts me will pay dearly. I vowed to do it.
  • Ignoring my question, Rowan reached out to the string of my dress that was pulled down after I removed my coat.
  • "You should know something," He began, his eyes locked with mine, "Anyone that stays around me......"
  • "They either die or die trying to survive? I know."
  • For the first time that afternoon, Rowan chuckled.
  • He moved back and nodded his head as the car glided past a high-rise black gate adorned with wolf heads, two armored guards standing beside it.
  • "Welcome to Crescent Moon pack, rogue.”
  • They didn't bow as I expected. They dropped to one knee.
  • “Alpha.”
  • Rowan barely acknowledged them as the car drove past them.
  • I stared outside, my eyes trailing the rumored statues of ancient crescent moon pack wolves which turned out not to be a rumor.
  • My eyes trailed the strong pillars adorned with lights erected beside each statue.
  • “This is King's district,” I mumbled under my breath.
  • Rowan’s voice was calm as he asked, “You've heard stories?”
  • I nodded, an unsure smile playing on my lips. “Every Wolf has,”
  • Some good, some terrifying.
  • Crescent moon pack, the pack that causes a ripple of fear through others with just the mention of her name.
  • He didn't react. Just watching the street passing by, why do every Wolf bow their head the moment they sight the car?
  • I found that fascinating. They had so much fear and respect for their Alpha, I wondered how he did it.
  • The car stopped in front of a tall obsidian building.
  • “That must be the pack house,” I muttered.
  • But in reality, it looked more like a castle than a pack house.
  • As the door was pulled open by the driver, Rowan wrapped his hand lightly on my wrist.
  • Not forcefully, but in command to still my movement.
  • “Before you step out of this car,” Rowan said quietly, “ understand something,”
  • Sharp gaze piercing into mine, his brown eyes holding me captive.
  • “Once you step into my territory as my guest, there's no neutrality, your protection— and responsibility fall on me,”
  • I chuckled despite the compelling aura radiating from him that requires no objections.
  • “And if I refuse?”
  • “Then I'll have you escorted back to the border, leave you within the scent range of whoever that want you gone,” he said, still holding my gaze, “and let fate decide,”
  • I smiled, “ You think fear will make me stay?”
  • “No,” Rowan responded, releasing my hand. “If you're a scared little kitten, you'd have been dead by now. Get down.”
  • The cold air hit my face the moment I stepped out of the car. I took in a deep breath, closing my eyes as I thought about my decision clearly.
  • “We're safe here!” Mani, my wolf, squealed.
  • “We are,” I murmured.
  • A guard opened the door, falling on one knee like the ones at the gate.
  • “Welcome to the crescent moon pack house,”
  • “Thank you,”
  • As we walked inside the pack house, I noticed the vast sitting room downstairs. The milk coloured couches looked very soft and comfy.
  • Two girls in uniform climbed downstairs, smiling at each other. The moment they saw Rowan. They dropped to their knees.
  • “Al….. Alpha,”
  • “Who is that?” They whispered among themselves.
  • “Is she…….”
  • “Follow me, we have to discuss some things,” Rowan's voice cut through the air.
  • As I took a step forward, my phone started vibrating in my bag.
  • “Ohh ….. that must be Octavia,” I thought, I unzipped my bag, and dug my hand inside.
  • I stared blankly at the caller ID. My eyes shifted cautiously to Rowan who was openly staring at me.
  • “Who?”
  • “Beaston. My chosen mate.”
