• The lines closed again. Erinyes’ trap was complete. The spirit chains burned hotter, glowing like iron pulled straight from fire. Adolfa stood at the center, fighting, her voice breaking with anger and fear. She tried to call the map, but the circle swallowed its light and turned it into ash that floated away.
• I stood at the top of the circle, my oar pressed into the ground like a staff. Erinyes was opposite me, his wings spread wide, his eyes filled with cruel satisfaction. Demons stirred behind him, and his power grew heavy, colder than before.
