Chapter 6 Break-up

  • Jefferson's POV
  • *** Flashback ***
  • "Let's break up," I told Wendy as soon as she got in my car. Wendy just looked at me for a moment, shocked.
  • "What? Babe, what are you talking about? This isn't a funny joke," she responded worriedly after taking in what I had just said. I'm not sure why; shouldn't she feel sad or wounded and not worried? What is she so concerned about?
  • "You're just saying that. Fine, let's try f****** in your vehicle. I know you've been begging for this, so let's try. Just don't make jokes like that, huh?" she added, going to sit on my lap but I stopped her.
  • "I'm going to marry someone else that Dad had arranged for me," I informed her.
  • "What? He knew we were dating, why would he do that?" Wendy cried. "He never once talked to me and attempted to keep me away from you, why would he suddenly urge you to marry someone else?"
  • "I'm not sure either; he just informed me earlier, and I didn't want to upset you by continuing our relationship," I stated.
  • "No, I can never agree to this; I love you and you love me; nothing should be able to separate us," Wendy sobbed. For a little minute, I feel sorry for her. Despite how she was while she was talking to Daria, she was still my girlfriend and had the right to act high and mighty. However, I didn't like that type of person.
  • "I'm sorry Wendy, but this is the end, and I can't disobey my father," I said, feeling horrible. I chose to drop her off since I asked her out.
  • "No, babe. Please tell me it's not true. You know how much I love you and how much you love me, right?" she asked, looking at me with teary eyes when I stopped the car in front of the gate. I think she had already calmed down on our way, because she was no longer sobbing but trying her best not to cry anymore.
  • "This will be our final meeting," I informed her, and she looked at me for a while, fury on her face, but she quickly altered her attitude.
  • "You don't even want to see me?" she asked.
  • "I may not enjoy the marriage, but I cherish it more than anything else in the world; I believe in the sanctity of marriage, and there's no way I'm going to let Celina think I'm cheating on her," I said, widening her eyes.
  • "Are you telling me she was important to you?" she snarled. I believe she couldn't help but become enraged, and the gentle and sensitive person she had been portraying for years vanished. I can't believe that, but based on what I saw in the shop, I assume that's how she really was. I believe I was oblivious to her genuine character as a result of what she forced me to witness during our relationship.
  • "I'm telling you how important marriage is to me, and it's not because of Celina," I said, trying to calm myself down since I knew I was breaking up with her at the expense of our business.
  • "I never thought this would happen to us; I never expected you to break up with me because I had been too kind and sweet to you and understood you no matter what you did; I thought you would end up marrying me and we would live together, but you chose to follow your father and marry that b****!" Wendy yelled.
  • I didn't want to say anything else since I knew she'd never listen to me again. She was enraged, and while I understood why, I was nonetheless disappointed in her behavior. Of course, she may become upset with me, but I never believed she was like this since I had never seen her get angry before.
  • "You're going to regret this, and I'll make that woman pay for it," she added as she get out of my car. It was difficult for me, and I'm not sure if I should be concerned about Celina. Because she was an orphan, I expected her to be frail.
  • *** End of Flashback ***
  • That's what I assumed. After speaking with Celina in the restaurant, I understood I had nothing to be concerned about. She was really intelligent, and I doubt Wendy could outwit her. Aside from that, I was aware of her tenacity. Celina was not the kind to just accept whatever was thrown at her.
  • And now I've discovered that Noris adores my wife. I'd never seen him that upset and heartbroken before. Even when he wasn't talking, he never let himself appear vulnerable, and he never allowed others to make fun of him for being an illegitimate son. He was heartbroken, and I'm not sure what I'll do now that I know.
  • I'm not sure if Celina was aware of it, but I also don't want to ask her about Noris. I didn't want her to believe I was moved by his' revelation. I still want to present myself as Jefferson Scott, CEO of the Scott Group of Companies.
  • Celina will be appointed as president, according to Dad. Therefore, she must be very brilliant. Knowing dad, he would never entrust someone with something so important to someone who is not deserving. Dad also wanted Noris to join the firm, so I had to consider our position carefully.
  • I wanted to despise dad and blame him for everything, but I remembered something Celina said to me when we first met. I had the decision to make, and she was correct. Only I chose the company over Wendy.
  • What is the rationale for everything now, if everything happens for a reason? Our love was entwined, and I didn't realize it until I couldn't stand it anymore.
  • Celina is a strong woman, and I shouldn't worry about how she will face our future together. She stated that she was willing to perform her duty and made a deal with me. I had intended to do the same. That is if Noris did nothing stupid.
  • I don't believe he'll be able to face me after admitting to me and my father about his affection for my wife and I'm certain I won't divorce my Celina, so what should I do to keep everyone happy?
  • Because Celina and I were not on good terms, I decided to leave and allow her some space to think. I only hope that when I return, she is ready to become Mrs. Scott in the genuine sense of the word.
  • Those were my thoughts before I found myself sleepy so I made myself comfortable in the lazy boy I was sitting in. Thankfully I put something like this in my study room. Then I closed my eyes and looked forward to my plan.
  • I was woken up by the ringing sound of my cell phone so I looked for it. When I got it and saw Wendy's number, I started to feel irritated. I noticed it was already 3 in the morning so I wonder why she was calling now to think that she knew I have just gotten married.
  • "Hello," I answered.
  • "Is this Mr. Scott?" The voice asked. I looked at the screen again and I was sure that it was Wendy's number as it was registered on my phone. So, who the hell am I talking to?
  • "Hello, is this Mr. Scott?" Whoever was on the other line asked again.
  • "Yes," I replied.
  • "This is Aesung Hospital and Ms. Wendy was here because of overdose." The woman said.
