- “I swear, Sophie, I’m not blowing you off,” Rosie said, holding her phone to her ear with one shoulder as she paced along the pool’s edge. The water shimmered in the late sunlight, a mirror catching gold and indigo. “I just—Maria invited me to lunch. Sort of insisted.”
