Chapter 32 The Third Shot
- The single gunshot echoed through the church, ricocheting off the stone walls. The candle between them hissed out, plunging the sacristy into near darkness. Only thin streams of moonlight bled through the shattered window above.
- Valentina’s instincts screamed at her to move. She dove sideways, rolling behind an overturned table. Isabel had vanished from the doorway, her footsteps retreating fast. Whoever had fired that shot had changed the game.
- Her breathing was steady despite the pounding in her ears. She scanned the room, every muscle coiled. The scent of gunpowder clung to the air.
