• I batted my eyes until they opened to take in the view around me. The pain that had subdued my body earlier had completely disappeared, replaced by a sharper affliction around my neck and wrists.
• Silver cuffs clutched my neck, their metal links bound to a cage behind me, while the cuffs on my wrists were tied to the stone walls on each side. The metal was cold against my skin, biting and digging into my supple flesh.
