- The further I moved away from her scent, the more my heart ached. I didn’t stop until the sounds of Pack life faded into a distant hum. The trees grew denser here, casting long, sharp shadows on the mossy ground.
- I found a hidden spot between two old stones, under a drooping pine, where no one would think to search for me. I collapsed onto the grass as if someone had cut the strings holding me up. My knees hit the earth, and I sat back on my shoes.
