Chapter 7 “A Wolf Who Can't Be Satisfied”

  • Matthew’s Point of View
  • Creak. The thick branch beneath me groaned as I shifted. Sitting on the jagged tree bark with my back pressed against it, I gazed up at the star-filled sky and stretched out my hand.
  • ‘The rain has finally stopped.'
  • The relentless downpour had drenched the forest, leaving the air thick with the earthy scent of wet pine. In the background, the sounds of buzzing insects and the occasional hoot of an owl broke the stillness. It felt like a peaceful moment in the middle of the woods. But my heart and my wolf were anything but calm; not with the lingering scent of my wolf-mate wafting from the cabin.
  • I shifted my gaze from the dark sky to the cabin below. I could still see the soft glow of firelight flickering through the gaps in the wooden walls. Even though I couldn’t spot her silhouette, I knew she was there. That was all I needed to ensure my wolf-mate wouldn’t escape away from me.
  • ‘Return to her. I want to have a taste of her, Matthew,’ Homer, my wolf, whispered in me.
  • With a frown, I forced myself to stay still.
  • How odd and foreign.
  • Not too long ago, my body and my wolf were completely averse to any kind of contact with females. But now, I’m battling hard against this overwhelming lust and desire to hold my mate.
  • ‘There’s no need to fight for it. Didn’t she allow you to use her body?’ Homer added.
  • From his question, I felt like a bucket of ice was poured into my heated heart. Homer’s words backfired against him since it was enough to snap me out of my desire. It was because I remembered the offer my mate had dropped after trying to give me her body.
  • [“Kill me.”] She had said.
  • At that time she had said that, I noticed the trace of sorrow clinging in her voice. She wanted to appear strong, and yet it was as if she was about to crumble.
  • “What happened to her before the accident?” I wondered.
  • I let out a breath through my nose, rubbing my thumb across my palm. The first part made sense. If she had been mated or married, she wouldn’t have made such a wild offer. Her bond would have shut that down immediately. So, she was free—at least not bound by the usual wolf rules. But the whole request for death? That was the part I just couldn’t wrap my head around.
  • Frustrated, I ran my fingers through my damp hair.
  • “It took me years to find you, someone I could actually stand. But you want me to kill you?” A low growl escaped my throat.
  • I wasn’t in love with that omega wolf. But this mate bond and this opportunity to save my pack made her special.
  • “Fuck it,” I sighed and ran a hand down my face. Between the space of my fingers, my eyes lingered on the cabin.
  • First off, I had to find the reason why that woman wanted to die.
  • **** ***
  • The next morning rolled in. The sun rose higher, chasing away the mist in the woods. A soft rainbow stretched across the treetops, and I caught a quick glimpse of it before jumping down from the tree and landing softly on the ground.
  • I figured I had given that woman enough time to gather her thoughts, so I made my way to the cabin. I pushed the door open and stepped inside without a second thought.
  • The smell of burnt wood from the fireplace mixed with her scent, wrapping around me like a warm blanket. I tried to contain my excitement as I headed to the bedroom. When I entered, I found her sitting on the bed, knees pulled up to her chest, arms wrapped tightly around them.
  • She didn’t even react when I walked in, almost as if she had been expecting me.
  • I opened my mouth to say something, but my gaze was drawn to the dead boar I had brought back. It lay untouched on the floor.
  • “DIDN’T I TELL YOU TO EAT?” I snapped instead of greeting her a good morning.
  • She didn’t look at me; she just gazed off into the distance and said, “I’m not hungry. Plus, how do you expect me to eat raw meat? It’s still bleeding.”
  • I tilted my head, watching her as if eating raw meat was the weirdest thing ever.
  • Isn’t she a wolf like me?
  • For me and my pack, eating raw meat is second nature. We’re born hunters, and fresh kills are what we thrive on.
  • Maybe it’s because she grew up in a modern world, unlike me and my pack. Wolves there probably prefer their meat cooked and fancy, I thought.
  • In my pack, we only get cooked meat during festivals or special events. And since we don’t have any females around, it’s a mad scramble to hunt and cook.
  • Trying to wrap my head around her reasoning, I pointed toward the kitchen and said, “If you want it cooked, the kitchen is r….”
  • “Just get it over with,” she interrupted, cutting me off.
  • Finally, she turned her head toward me, and I found myself staring into her empty eyes.
  • “I made myself clear last night. Take my body if you want it. When you’re done, kill me after. Just a favor, please make it quick and painless,” she said.
  • I thought maybe if I gave her some space, she'd reconsider. But now, I was convinced she truly wanted to die in my arms.
  • A chill gripped my heart. My Alpha pride wouldn’t let me beg a lowly omega wolf to stay alive. But one thing was for sure – I wouldn’t let her have her way.
  • “You’re right,” I said softly as I moved closer.
  • Looming over her, she looked up and I could closely look at her brown eyes, akin to the earthy ground. Then in an instant, I placed my fingers under her chin and tilted her face up to look at me.
  • “I want your body. I want to eat, devour, and mark you,” I laid my desire bare.
  • I noticed a slight shift in her eyes. Her pupils widened, but her overall expression stayed blank. Still, those little changes were enough.
  • I leaned closer, so close our lips could collide if she moved a bit. Then, I dropped the next words.
  • “Unfortunately, I am not a wolf who can be satisfied with just one night. So, until I get bored of your body, YOU CAN’T DIE.”
