Chapter 7 Seven

  • Justina's Point Of View
  • "Jasper was never your true mate."
  • Those words rang deep in my head as I walked back home with Dawn blasting music through her headphones.
  • I knew he betrayed me but I was sure that- or was I mistaken?
  • "Damn, this is too much to take in for real!"
  • "What?" Dawn asked removing her headphones from her head. "What is it?"
  • "No it's just the whole thing and Jasper is just- too much to take in."
  • "I know honey I know." Her face fell as she stared at me, the pain I was going through she could feel them, it was written all over her face. Her concern and care.
  • "Thank you."
  • "What for?"
  • "For understanding."
  • "You're an amazing person, Justina, jasper doesn't know what he missed and I pray he never does."
  • My eyes darted back and forth as my head was still lost in a bag of thoughts. "Yeah me too."
  • The walk back home was silent but satisfying, it gave me time to recollect myself and think properly, immediately we got home Dawn jumped on the bed and slept off.
  • "Can't believe she was so tired she missed dinner," I laughed under my breath as I placed a blanket over her body. "Thank you," I whispered before leaving her room.
  • I prepared something small and light for dinner, I wasn't hungry but I needed to feed the baby. I took one spoon into my mouth at first I scrunched my nose but it tasted delicious the moment it hit my tongue.
  • "Wow," I gasped as I swallowed feeling satisfied.
  • "What you cooking stranger?!" Dawn asked as she stepped in, her eyes were still full of sleep.
  • "You awake?"
  • "Partially, my stomach woke me up."
  • "Wow," I laughed. "You have a gift."
  • "Ugh, stop being greedy and share!"
  • "I'm eating for two people, sorry." I stuck my tongue out to her which made her hiss
  • "Stingy." She snorted as she headed to the kitchen to prepare something for herself.
  • After a while, she came with two plates, gave me one, and took one for herself.
  • "For me?"
  • "Yeah, two humans remember?"
  • "Thank you," I said as I took a spoonful into my mouth, I instantly melted the moment it touched my tongue.
  • "This is very good," I mumbled with food still in my mouth.
  • "I made it so it has to be perfect." She bragged as she took another spoon into her mouth and sighed with satisfaction.
  • "Show off," I hissed under my breath.
  • "Jealous!"
  • "I'm not!" I defended myself. "I am also quite a wonderful cook."
  • "Agreed, but I'm better."
  • "Please let it out!" I laughed.
  • We spent the night talking, mostly about random stuff, I skipped any conversation that could led to my mother or Jasper. Just like as if Dawn knew she also avoided bringing up any sensitive topic.
  • "Alright, it's late. We both have work and more importantly, that baby needs its rest and mother's energy."
  • "Alright, thanks again."
  • She let out a deep breath before speaking. "One more thank and I'll shove something down your mouth probably a tape."
  • "I'm sorry it's just- no one has ever been there for you like you did."
  • "I know but it's okay, don't worry. I'm here and your mother is too."
  • Right, my mother...
  • "Goodnight Justina, have a wonderful night's rest."
  • "You too."
  • I laid my head on the pillow hoping to fall asleep fast but it never came, so I decided to count sheep before I lost consciousness and drifted into a deep relaxing sleep.
  • The next day.
  • I woke up feeling extremely tired, I picked up my phone to check the time.
  • 8 am
  • That explains why I'm weak, I slept by 3 am, but 5 hours of rest shouldn't affect me, right?
  • 4 hours later.
  • Yep, I was wrong. It did affect me.
  • "What's wrong with you?" Dawn asked her voice laced with concern as I kept zoning in and out for the past few hours.
  • "Yeah." I lied.
  • No, I'm not okay, I need to sleep!
  • "You don't look like, you have eye bags." She gently rubbed the corners of my eyes with a frown on her lips.
  • "You didn't sleep on time?"
  • I chuckled nervously and avoided her gaze. "Who still sleeps on time? Pfffft old school."
  • Even though I cracked a stupid joke she didn't laugh or change her facial expression, the Dawn I knew would have mocked me for making such a lame joke but instead, she just stood with an unimpressed look on her face.
  • "Not funny."
  • "Figured."
  • She shot one eyebrow up and sat on the floor next to me. "Want to talk?"
  • "It's nothing important Dawn, I'm just stressed."
  • "Then take the day off, you need it. Go rest."
  • "And have you done everything?!" My eyes widen. "Hell no, you need some assistance and that's me."
  • "May I remind you that yesterday was emotionally draining for you and you have a growing child in your belly which is your number one priority now." She folded her arms looking like a grandmother as her face aged due to stress.
  • I'm only stressing her more, I'm not even helping.
  • "Okay, I'll leave."
  • "Thank you," she stood and continued working. "And don't just leave, please rest."
  • "Sure thanks."
  • "Always welcome."
  • I left and headed back home, but I got hungry and decided to step out for a snack. I decided to also do some small shopping, Dawn is doing all the work, and I can't let her do it anymore.
  • I got some few things we may need and started walking back home, on my way I got lost as I decided to follow a shortcut route.
  • "Great one Justina!" I groaned as I looked around. The place seemed familiar but I wasn't sure. As I wondered about trying to get out I realized I was walking in a circle and this made me more confused.
  • "The hell?"
  • I walked again for 5 minutes but I still couldn't get out, opposite me was a thick forest, I swallowed hard as I moved away.
  • "Are you lost, young lady?"
