• Early that morning, Lyra informed me that Alpha Duke had reopened the investigation into yesterday's events. They called the place "Lupine Hollow." The name sent a chill down my spine—eerily fitting and not at all cringe-worthy.
• I peered out the window at the brilliantly blue sky. I wanted to go outside, but Duke had forbidden it, orders passed down through Lyra.
• An hour of restless silence later, my curiosity got the better of me.
