Chapter 4 An Opportunity Bestowed Upon You
- The girl gazed at her reflection, a subtle sense of anticipation mingling with a touch of worry in her heart.
- No wolf responded to her.
- “Vali, are you still there?” she called out again.
- Suddenly, her inner wolf appeared in the mirror.
- “Bloodshade,” Vali responded to her wearily.
- “Vali, what's going on?” The girl gazed at her unfamiliar body.
- “This is an opportunity bestowed upon you by Moon Goddess, a chance to start anew. The course of destiny has changed. We aren't meant to perish on that isolated island. We are supposed to meet the one we are meant to meet in Yiefmery...”
- “Hello, Darcy Quivers, congratulations on your new lease of life,” Vali said, casting a glance at Bloodshade with a faint smile. “To avoid any unnecessary complications, I'm going to lay low. Good luck.” With that, Vali disappeared from sight, but Bloodshade knew she was still around.
- “Darcy Quivers.” Not bad, it sounds far more human than Bloodshade.
- Bloodshade closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she had fully embraced her new body and identity.
- After she stood for more than ten minutes, fatigue began to creep into Darcy's body. Her legs felt weak, not only due to the head injury she had suffered but more so due to her general physical weakness from a lack of regular exercise.
- Bloodshade really wanted to know how this body managed to appear so strong, yet felt as fragile as an Omega.
- It was tragic that her battle-hardened form was reduced to nothing, her years of rigorous training serving only to feed the fish in the sea.
- When she returned to the ward, the hallway outside was already quiet. The doctor came in with the medical record in hand to check on the situation. “Darcy Quivers?”
- The girl lifted her bright eyes and responded, “That's me.”
- In a study room that was subtly decorated yet undeniably luxurious, the Alpha of the Nightmane Pack was seated at his desk, with a document laid out before him.
- “What a pity,” the Alpha murmured, his voice deep and magnetic, tinged with the regret of dashed hopes.
- A moment later, he added, “What a pity to lose such a gifted warrior.” This statement was a frank expression of regret.
- His gaze fell upon the documents, and the name that stood out was none other than Bloodshade.
- This elusive genius warrior had left countless packs of werewolves clueless about even her gender. Yet, a vast majority of her information was brazenly laid out in front of the Alpha of the Nightmane Pack.
- Meanwhile, Darcy had spent the entire night in the hospital. As soon as dawn broke the following day, her mother, Loraine, urged her to return home.
- “Hurry up and change your clothes and head home. Your school only covered a small amount of the costs. We can't afford to pay for your hospital stay.”
- Loraine tossed the clothes she had brought over to Darcy, continuously insisting that they had no money.
- Darcy's eyes were icy cold as she sat motionless on the hospital bed. Even in her current weakened state, the wolf within her soul refused to tolerate such provocation.
- Loraine was influenced and stopped her loud ranting, but she still urged Darcy, “Hurry up! What are you standing there for? I have to go to work later.”
- Reflecting on the fact that she had taken over Darcy's body, she managed to tolerate the harshness of this mother.
- Once they left the hospital, Loraine immediately abandoned her. She handed her some money for the bus fare, shoved the keys into her hand, and then went off to work without a second thought.
- Drawing from the original host's memories, Darcy returned to the home of this body. Before even entering the residential area, she first encountered a handsome young man.
- The boy was dressed in a blue and white school uniform, exuding youthful vibrancy, although he was a bit on the thin side. He appeared to be quiet and reserved.
- Although Loraine was known for her harshness, her striking allure fostered a proud and uncompromising spirit that scorned the ordinary.
- The young man before her had clearly inherited the genes of Loraine quite well.
- The young man's steps faltered momentarily when he saw her. Then his gaze landed on the bandage wrapped around her head.
- Darcy was also sizing him up.
- Perhaps it was because the old Darcy usually kept her gaze lowered, never daring to meet others' eyes, that her direct look now took the young man aback and caused him to furrow his brows in confusion.
- The young man made his way toward her, and Darcy noticed a slight limp in his left leg.
- Tyler Quivers didn't utter a single word to her. However, as he passed by her, he shoved the item he was holding into her hands, then slung his backpack over his shoulder and headed off to school.
- Darcy gazed at the bread in her hand.
- Darcy's younger brother, unlike their mother, wasn't one to bear a harsh nature. Aware that she hadn't had her breakfast, he even brought her some food.
- A concussion was no minor matter, and the doctor was firmly against Darcy's discharge. However, Loraine, with her heart aching over the mounting medical bills, was unstoppable. The doctor had no choice but to let her go. Once Darcy got home, she did nothing but climb into bed and sleep straight through until nightfall.
- “Fatso, all you do is eat and sleep all day. It's a wonder you haven't fallen and killed yourself.”
