Chapter 2 Somebody Came to Pick You Up

  • Tang Yin’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. “I-I can!”
  • “Can you?” Ruan Qin opened her mouth in an exaggerated manner as she looked at him with contempt. “How dare you talk big here? Moreover, how long are you going to keep up with this pretentious act? I have already seen your true nature. You are poor, and you barely can afford to eat. You are just a penniless good-for-nothing loser. You don’t understand the life that I want to lead, nor do you know my ambitions. You are nothing more than a disgusting worm at the bottom of a swamp and you think you can provide for me?”
  • Tang Yin gritted his teeth as his heart started to beat wildly from anger.
  • “Leave immediately. I do not wish to see you anymore. In the future, don’t tell anybody that we are acquainted with each other,” said Ruan Qin as she looked at him coldly and pointed toward the university entrance.
  • Zhang Qiang laughed heartily and walked toward him as he patted Tang Yin’s face and lowered his voice. Then he said in a mocking manner, “Why? Are you not satisfied with the outcome? If you aren’t satisfied with it, I can’t help you out here as your family is just too poor. Why do you have to be so dirt poor? Do you know that money is everything around here? I am rich, so I can toy around with her tonight. What about you?”
  • Tang Yin held his fist tightly as he glared at Zhang Qiang.
  • “Don’t glare at me. Do you think you can achieve something by doing that?” Zhang Qiang laughed heartily. His voice was loud and resounding. “Tang Yin, I see that you don’t look too well. I bet you haven’t eaten in a while, right? Why don’t you kneel on the floor and kowtow three times to me and I will give you a few meal tickets. What do you say?”
  • Tang Yin lifted his head. He was devastated as he said, “No need for that.”
  • “Zhang Qiang, let’s go…” Ruan Qin did not wish to look at Tang Yin anymore as she took Zhang Qiang's hand and strode outside.
  • Zhang Qiang laughed again and said, “My dear friends, take a look. This gentleman here is a student from our neighbour, Wuhan University. However, he is a penniless, good-for-nothing loser! He can’t even afford to feed himself and he dares to date the prettiest girl in our department. Isn’t he just craving after what he is not worthy of?”
  • The students around him started to turn their gaze toward Tang Yin. Each of them wore a look of disdain, and some even went to the extent of ridiculing him.
  • “Are all of the students from Wuhan University that shameless?”
  • “If you don’t have the money, then don’t get into a relationship. This guy is trying to bite off more than he can chew…”
  • “That’s right. Look at him! He does not look at all capable. He really does not know his position here. How can our goddess, Ruan Qin, be in a relationship with him?”
  • Zhang Qiang laughed heartily as he left with Ruan Qin in his arms. Before he left, he said in a loud voice, “My darling, tonight let’s go out and have a good time. I can introduce some wealthy friends to you. If it’s too late, then we will not go back at all. I will bring you somewhere fun, let us…”
  • “You meanie!” said Ruan Qin playfully.
  • Tang Yin stood, unable to move as he listened to them colluding together. His heart nearly shattered into pieces.
  • Was this the ideal girlfriend he had in his mind? Was this the woman he had worked so hard to protect? Was this the woman that made him reject the Meng Family’s marriage proposal? A woman who got into a relationship with another man just because he was broke?
  • Tang Yin felt that it was a mockery as the entire world suddenly felt strange to him.
  • Initially, he thought that he was pursuing a pure, loving relationship. Unexpectedly, he was completely defeated in the face of money. Moreover, he had completely lost his dignity as well.
  • Raindrops started to pour and fall onto his face. Finally, after much difficulty, he managed to gather his emotions as he turned and walked toward Wuhan University.
  • After he went back to his dormitory, Tang Yin opened his piggy bank and pulled out a lot of small change.
  • There were $10 bills, $5 bills, $20 bills… The biggest bill there was 50, while the smallest bill there was 1. If he were to add it all up, it would amount to around 200.
  • This was all the money he had saved for the past few months. Initially, he had saved 3,000. However, he was left with 200 for this month after spending 2,800 on the necklace for Ruan Qin and the fresh flowers that he had thrown away.
  • The dormitory doors were flung open as his roommate, Ding Xuan, rushed in.
  • “Tang Yin, I heard that you broke up with Ruan Qin?”
  • Tang Yin nodded his head in disappointment as he smiled bitterly.
  • Wuhan University was located just beside Wuhan Foreign Studies University. The incident that happened at Wuhan Foreign Studies University would have spread to Wuhan University by now. Hence, Tang Yin wasn’t surprised that Ding Xuan knew about this.
  • “I knew that she wasn’t a good person. You lived frugally by eating one meal a day in order to buy her clothes and cosmetics. Now that she managed to butter up to a richer man, she dared to two-time you?! How could you let her off so easily? I will go now and kill this cheating couple!”
  • “No need for that,” said Tang Yin as he sighed.
  • “No need? Why are you being such a coward?” asked Ding Xuan angrily.
  • “It’s only a few thousand, nothing much. Besides, I got to see the type of person she is with a few thousand, so it is a good thing for me,” said Tang Yin.
  • “Tang Yin…” Ding Xuan balled his fists tightly as he stared angrily at Tang Yin.
  • Tang Yin shook his head. On the contrary, he felt a sense of warmth in his heart. Although Ruan Qin had betrayed his feelings, Ding Xuan was still a good friend to him. If it wasn’t for Ding Xuan all this time, he was afraid that he would lead an even more miserable life.
  • “It’s a good thing that we have broken up since I don’t have to save my money anymore. Tonight, let’s take this 200 and go out and have a good meal. My treat today!” said Tang Yin with a smile.
  • “Are you really letting them off the hook?” Ding Xuan looked at Tang Yin with wide eyes.
  • Tang Yin waved his hands and said, “Don’t worry, some day they will regret their decision. Since we have broken up, let’s celebrate first tonight. Let’s go out and have a meal later, my treat!”
  • Ding Xuan was worried for him, but he accepted his invitation nevertheless. “Alright then, I still have some money here, so why don’t you use it first? I will give our best friends a call. Let’s invite them out as well.”
  • Tang Yin was moved as he inhaled deeply. Before he could pick up his phone to make a call, the phone rang unexpectedly.
  • “Young Master Tang, I am Miao Bai. Today I happen to have a meeting in Wuhan…”
  • When Tang Yin heard the voice in the phone, a look of delight spread across his face. Miao Bai was the Old Master’s most capable assistant. All these years, he held a very high position in the Tang Family. The most important thing was that he had had a good relationship with Miao Bai ever since he was young. However, he did not expect Miao Bai to come to Wuhan.
  • “Young Master Tang, please get ready. I will pick you up in a moment…”
  • Tang Yin was delighted as he quickly jumped down from his bed and ran outside.
  • When Ding Xuan saw Tang Yin running away, he shouted in shock, “Tang Yin, what are you doing? All our friends are going to be here soon, so where are you going at this point of time?”
  • “I am going out for a while. Can you do me a favor and tell our friends to go to the Orchid Restaurant to wait for me? I will be there in awhile…”
  • “The Orchid Restaurant?” Ding Xuan nearly jumped in fright as the Orchid Restaurant was a high-end restaurant located near the University Town. It was said that one meal in that restaurant cost more than a few thousand. He did not expect Tang Yin to invite them there for their dinner. However, when he recalled that Tang Yin had just suffered from a betrayal, he decided to bite the bullet and agree. If worse came to worst, he could just starve himself next month as he could not go against his best friend’s wishes.
