Chapter 7 What A Jerk!
- ***KAYLA***
- "What's wrong, you know her?" I heard Caleb ask me, but I couldn't reply, the words were stuck in my throat, I felt pain and I still felt pity towards her, why was she getting married and more importantly, why was she getting married to him, why was she being forced against her will, I thought within me.
- "Yes," I answered then swallowed a heavy lump down my throat, "That is my sister, Sheila," I said, my voice breaking as tears began to stream down my face and I ran out of the hall, I could hear Caleb running after me, but I had to get far away, I had left my sister in Ravenclaw, knowing fully well the man that hunted me would make her life a living hell, and now she was getting married to him against her will, and even smiling falsely.
- "Kayla! Kayla!!" Caleb called behind me as he ran after me, while I just kept running, looking for fresh air. Then I stopped, and Caleb caught up with me.
- "Why did you dash off like that?" He said, catching his breath.
- "I…I put her in that condition," I said amidst my tears.
- "What condition?" He asked as though he hadn't seen what was going on in there.
- "Sheila is marrying Derek, against her will; that's what we just witnessed in there," I said to him, explaining what was already obvious.
- "Didn't seem like that to me, but hey, guess I don't know your sister enough to decide that," Caleb said throwing his hands in the air, he was being the jerk I knew him to be since the first day I met him, a reasonable person would have understood there's no reason for Sheila to marry Derek, if not because she was threatened into it.
- "So what do you wanna do," Caleb asked, breaking the silence that had begun to last for about a minute.
- "Rescue her," I answered.
- "Yes, which has been our plan, but I don't think the Luna of Ravenclaw could be saved or taken away without notice, so you need another plan," Caleb pointed out. I hated to admit it, but he was right.
- I was silent as I didn't know what to do, and thankfully, Caleb just stood in the silence with me.
- "I have an idea," he said.
- Well, until he broke the silence, I thought within me as I subtly rolled my eyes.
- "Do tell," I answered, not interested.
- "Your sister, if truly she is captured against her will and made to marry Derek, don't you think it means it'll be harder to save her once they find out you're here? I mean, once Derek finds out, he'd either capture you one way or another or guide her more," he said, and again, he made sense, damn it!
- "True, so what do you suggest," I asked, the tears on my cheeks now drying up as I folded my hands against my breast; I watched his eyes trail to my breast, which was now pushed up a bit, and then he swallowed hard and quickly averted his gaze.
- And he is asexual? I thought, trying my best to stifle laughter.
- "Well, I think the best decision right now is to make sure Derek doesn't see you or anyone around here," he said in a low tone. Then some people began to pass by, and he quickly pulled me aside so I wouldn't be seen.
- "No, no no," I said, immediately those passing had left.
- "No what?" He asked in surprise
- "No, I'm not going back to Crescent pack without Sheila; you wanna protect me, I know, but I can't go back knowing my sister is married against her will to a bastard," I stood my ground.
- Then Caleb began to laugh at me, almost as though he was mocking me and that only made me feel so little, wondering what was wrong, why was he laughing so hard?
- "What?" I summoned the courage to ask him, as I shrugged.
- "You assume too much," he said, now smiling at me, that smile that makes me want to hug him tight and kiss him.
- Come on Kayla, what are you thinking about?
- "I mean, I couldn't send you back to Crescent pack on your own, Carla would have my head for that," he said with a smile.
- "Then what do you mean I shouldn't be seen by Derek and the rest of the pack?" I asked, now confused.
- "Well, I meant this," he said, then put his hands into his pocket and brought out a piece of clothing, one that was gently folded into a square, a handkerchief? I thought.
- Only this piece of clothing felt lighter than a handkerchief.
- "And that is?" I asked.
- "Oh, this? It's a veil," he replied, now loosening it to make it bigger and waving it across my face.
- "A veil?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
- "Yes," he said as he nodded.
- "And what am I supposed to use this for again?" I asked, confused.
- "For your face dummy!" He said, rolling his eyes as though I'd asked a frustrating question.
- "And why will I want to cover my face?" I asked him as I narrowed my eyes at him; then he used his left palm to hit his forehead in frustration.
- "You wanna get to the end of this issue or not? Do you wanna get caught and locked away immediately if they spot you or not? Do you want to save your only sister, Sheila, or not? Then please be smart enough to know this goes on your face, and it's for you to wear as long as we're here, till we're done with this murder investigation that looms around your existence," he said, then spat out angrily.
- "It's not like I'm scared of getting caught," I said in a low tone, then tried to snatch the veil from his hands, but he quickly took it back.
- "What did you say?" He asked.
- "I said I'm not scared of getting caught," I said again.
- "Hey there!" Caleb yelled to the Ravenclaw pack members who were standing far away from where we stood.
- "I'm alpha Caleb of Crescent pack, I lost my way. Could you help me?" He yelled.
- "Coming, milord," the younger man yelled back and started running towards us.
- "Come on Caleb, give me the goddamn veil," I begged.
- "I can't hear you, you say what now?" He asked in a playful tone but I didn't have the luxury of time to play with him as the boy was already getting closer to us.
- "Please, the veil, Now," I pleaded, then he smiled and just kept looking at me.
- Then, just as I turned to bow and cover my face, I saw the veil flying towards me in the air, and immediately, I caught it.
- WHAT A JERK!!!
