Chapter 124 Have You Figured Out What You’re Going to Say

  • Robert Taylor was right outside Lily Williams’s door, but this time, he couldn’t get in. His fingerprint had been deleted. Robert called Lily several times. She didn’t pick up. He thought for a second and called Samson, asking him to reach out to Lily. Samson had no idea what happened between Robert and Lily, but he still did as told. A moment later, he told Robert that Lily wasn’t answering his calls either. Then Samson added, “Lil just posted on Facebook. What’s that supposed to mean?” Robert had already deleted Lily from WhatsApp, so he had no clue what she posted. Samson hurried and sent him a screenshot. Lily’s latest post was made at noon today. Just a few words: Go to hell, all of you. Yeah, that was harsh. And it showed exactly where her head was at. She wanted to drag everyone down with her. But Robert didn’t know what kind of mess Lily planned to make now. Back then, she was careful and obedient. She’d just throw a little tantrum. But today, she even dared to kick his mom—and kicked a maid too. Clearly, the cool had snapped. When someone’s lost their cool, they can do anything. The old lady had said she was afraid Lily would flip and smear the Taylor Family. If that happened, it’d be hard to explain. Robert hadn’t believed it at first. Lily might act wild, but not that wild. Now, seeing her Facebook post, he thought, well, maybe it wasn’t impossible. Robert hung up and started ringing the doorbell. Lily, of course, didn’t respond. He thought it over and stopped. With the way Lily’s temper was right now, seeing each other wouldn’t help them talk it out. It might only set her off. Robert turned back to the car. He didn’t drive away, though. He lit a cigarette and waited. Lily sat upstairs for a while. The doorbell stopped. The calls stopped. Only then did she slowly head down. When she was on the stairs, she saw the car parked outside the gate. Lily let out a cold laugh. “Robert, looks like you’re finally getting yours.” She strolled into the kitchen and started cooking. Lunch at the Taylor Residence had been miserable. Everything was cold, and her stomach still ached. Humming to herself, Lily rinsed rice, set it to cook, then washed and chopped the vegetables. Robert finished his cigarette, stared into space for a moment, and then saw someone moving around in the living room. Lily had come downstairs. He sat in the car, lowered the window, and kept his eyes on the living room. He couldn’t see her clearly—just a shape passing through now and then. Robert took a deep breath and got out. He walked over and rang the bell again. Lily had just finished cooking and was setting the food on the table. When the bell rang, she didn’t care at first. She sat down and ate a few bites. The bell kept ringing. Robert rarely had this much patience with her. Lily thought for a moment, then went over and opened the door. “What do you want?” Robert stared at Lily, a tangle of emotions running through him. Last night was still vivid. Lily had been gentle and cooperative. And now it was a full-blown disaster. He hadn’t seen that coming. Robert stayed silent, so Lily stepped back. “Come in.” Robert froze the moment he stepped inside. This used to be his place. He knew every inch of it better than anyone. But now, it looked different. More things here, fewer things there. Except for the fixed stuff, almost everything had changed. Even the throw pillows on the couch were a different color. There was a wind chime by the door, clinking softly. Lily turned. “If you’ve got something to say, think it through first. I’m going to eat. I hope by the time I’m done, you know how to say it.” Without another glance at him, she headed to the dining room. Dinner was lavish again—maybe because her mood had inexplicably brightened and she wanted to treat herself right. Lily ate slowly, played music on her phone, and hummed along from time to time. A life like this—everyone would envy it, gods included.
