Chapter 5

  • The next morning I woke up to find myself naked with a firm grip around my waist. It felt so good that I moaned involuntarily, inhaling the woody scent which was so familiar. That's when the events of last night came rushing back to my head. I got up with a jerk and pulled up the sheets to cover myself. Shit, shit, shit, stupid Emma. This was a huge mistake. Damn me and my stupid body, to give in to my desires. This was going to be so awkward. I turned to my side to find Austin sleeping peacefully and trailed my eyes all over his chiseled chest. I remembered how amazing last night was and blushed at the thought of it.
  • A small smile crept on my face as I traced his jawline. Fuck, he looked so beautiful. I wouldn't mind watching him sleep all day. I shook my head and stepped out of his bed, ready to face reality and decided to see myself out to avoid the awkward morning after. I quickly got dressed and wore my heels. I ran outside towards the living room to find my bag near the door and searched for my phone to book a cab.
  • Soon, I was on my way home. What was I even thinking? I thought if I slept with him, I could get him out of my mind but it only made me want him more. I could still feel his touch and lips all over my body. Last night was too good that every second of it was etched in my mind. I felt like a whole new person when I was with him and it scared me to think about how much I enjoyed it. Everything about his screamed trouble and heartbreak. Getting over Justin was the hardest thing I had to do and I don't think I can go through that misery again. I made up my mind to never see him again. No more fun teasing glances and game nights. I took a deep breath and made up my mind to go back to my normal life.
  • Once I reached home, I noticed that my car was in the driveway which brought a smile to my face. He must have asked someone to drop it at my house after I dozed off last night. So much for not thinking about him. I groaned and entered my house, running upstairs to take a quick shower. I got dressed for my classes in my black jeans and a grey hoodie. I grabbed a granola bar from the kitchen and rushed to my classes.
  • "Good morning, class." The professor chirped as he entered the classroom. I closed my eyes and held my head, trying to relax.
  • "Rough morning?" I heard the voice of Liam Anderson as he sat down beside me. He was my classmate and the only person who was kind of close to me after Ashley. We got along so well from the first day of law school and helped me a lot during my breakup. He was a nice guy and I liked hanging out with him. I turned around to look at him with a scowl on my face. He grinned at my expression which made his blue eyes sparkle. He was quite handsome with dirty-blonde hair and a well-built body. All the girls at the campus threw themselves at him but I never found him attractive at all. He was more like a brother I never had.
  • "More like a rough weekend, dude." I sighed and groaned in frustration. I hated Monday mornings.
  • "I don't think so. You look like you had a good time partying last night?" he wiggled his eyebrows and my eyes went wide. Shit. I was just a random accurate guess. Stop panicking, Emma. I let out a huge breath before responding.
  • "I was in my bed all weekend and if you consider that as a partying then yeah, I did party hard." I lied as the professor starting writing something on the board. He chuckled at my response and fixed his gaze to the board in front of us.
  • "So as the exams are approaching, I wanted to share some important piece of information." Everyone fell silent and the professor continued, "We are going to select three students who do well in the upcoming examination and offer them a part-time internship opportunity with the most reputed law firm in New York, Thomson and Knight." I heard collective gasps all around the class which included mine as well. He continued, "This internship could turn into a full-time job opportunity depending on your performance. Of course, you won't be paid during the internship but this is a huge opportunity, so I suggest you all throw in your effort and study well." he finished off with a huge smile and started on with the lecture. Damn, it would be super cool to get that internship. I have heard so much about that law firm and was already excited about it.
  • "What do you think, Lewis?" Liam turned his attention to me with a pencil hanging between his lips.
  • "This is huge and I think we both can get it if we study hard." I grinned in excitement and he sighed.
  • "Easy for you to say, nerd." I rolled my eyes at his comment and smacked his arm.
  • "I'm not a nerd." I glared at him which made him scoff.
  • "Really? When was the last time you got laid or even had fun since your breakup?" Last night. The words were on the tip of my tongue but I pursued my lips and remained silent.
  • "That's what I thought. Loosen up, Em. I am pretty sure you are gonna be one of the three students," he stated cooly while I stuck out my tongue at him in a playful manner.
  • "You could join my study group. We hang out at the library every Tuesday and Wednesday. I am sure all the girls would love your company," I winked and he shook his head with a small smile.
  • "I don't think I'm comfortable with that. Why don't you help me instead? I could come to your place or you could come by mine. I'm okay with anything," I was taken by surprise at his question. It wasn't such a bad idea and I guess I could help him.
  • "Sure, we will work something out but I should warn you. I can get pretty scary when it comes to studying." I responded which made him laugh. We stood up as the class came to an end and walked towards the cafeteria.
  • "Pfft, you are scary enough already." he teased me and I hit him with my books.
  • The rest of the week went by in a blur, it was Friday night and I tried to keep myself busy by studying but I couldn't stop thinking about Austin and wondered if he felt the same way. I know we didn't know much about each other but those hazel eyes haunted me day and night. He would have probably forgotten about me. After all, he got what he wanted. I must have been just another one of his random hookups. I couldn't help myself and Googled him. All my theories were confirmed in a second. I could see pictures of him with different women who were way more prettier than me which made me annoyed. Ughhh...he and his stupid sexy face!
  • I couldn't talk to Ashley about this as she would urge me to go after him and probably kill him when he hurts me. I threw my phone on the couch in frustration and went to cook something. Cooking was always my kind of escapism and I loved cooking as it made me calm. While I was in the middle of baking cookies, I heard my phone go off. I rushed over to the couch to see a call from Liam.
  • "Hey, Liam, what's up?" I spoke as I walked back to the kitchen and continued with my baking.
  • "I was wondering if I could come over tomorrow to study," he asked doubtfully as I pulled out a fresh batch of cookies from the oven.
  • "Sure dude, come by around 6 in the evening with books," I stressed on the word books which made him laugh. I already told Ashley that I couldn't come to their game night tomorrow as I had to study. I was glad that I had an honest excuse to avoid Austin. It was for the best.
  • "Alright, Em. I'll see you then, Goodnight," he cut the call and I placed my phone on top of the kitchen counter. I went back to the living room with a plate of freshly baked cookies and sat down on the couch, munching on them and instantly felt way better than before. Food can honestly change your mood. I spoke to my mom for a while before going to bed and tried to sleep, blocking Austin out of my mind completely.
  • The next day, Liam arrived at sharp 6 pm and we sat down on the couch to study. After studying for about three hours straight, we were both exhausted and famished.
  • "Now I get why you score well, you seriously have OCD issues, dude." He sighed and stretched out his arms while I just shrugged.
  • "I warned you before," I said, giving him an evil smile and took out my phone to order some take out food.
  • "How about Chinese?" I asked, scrolling through my phone.
  • "Sounds good," he stood up and made his way towards the kitchen, "Damn, did you make these?" I turned around to find him eating my cookies.
  • "Yeah, how is it?" I beamed proudly, throwing my hair in a bun.
  • "It's fucking delicious. I didn't know you could cook," he sounded surprised which made me roll my eyes and I fell back on the couch.
  • "Hey, you know that girl Lucy from our class?" I asked him. That poor girl has been nagging me for a while to talk to him about her.
  • "Yeah, I guess so," he shouted from the kitchen with his mouth full of cookies.
  • "I think she likes you," I said and heard him groan.
  • "Not this again, she is not my type, Em." He sighed. As usual. It was no use asking him anymore. He never showed interest in anyone and I was starting to think if he was secretly gay.
  • "Whatever dude, how come you are studying with me on a Saturday night. Don't you have any parties to go to?" I asked out of curiosity and heard no response. I lifted myself from the couch to see him scratching the back of his head.
  • "Uhh...Parties are pretty boring nowadays. Moreover, I need to study, Em." he shrugged casually and walked towards the living room.
  • "That's my boy, we are so gonna get that internship." I squealed which made him laugh. Just when he was about to sit down, we heard a knock on the door.
  • "It must be the food," I said and stood up to open the door.
  • "Damn, that was pretty fast. I'll get it," he walked towards the door while I went inside the kitchen to get the plates.
  • "Uhhh...Emma, I think there is someone here for you," Liam spoke from the living room. For me? I wasn't expecting any visitors. I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, wondering who it could be. I came out of the kitchen to see who it was and froze, not believing my own eyes.
  • Holy Fuck!
