Chapter 6 Poor Child

  • It was closing time and I was prepared to go home. The students have gone out of the class. Those following the school bus had followed it while the parents had come to pick up their kids.
  • I almost got out of the classroom when I saw that Henry was still seated on his chair playing with his lunch bag.
  • "Henry? What are you still doing in the class?" I asked him.
  • I checked the time. This is thirty minutes after the closing time!
  • "Where is your dad?" Won't you come to pick you up?" I asked him.
  • "I don't know. He should have been here by now." He said sadly.
  • "What should we do now? Do you have his number?" I asked him.
  • "No, I lost his business card." He said.
  • "Come with me." I told him and he stood up and followed me.
  • We sat at the reception area while waiting for him.
  • We spent almost twenty minutes there before I went to sit at the gate area waiting for him.
  • "Is everything okay, miss Maxwell?" Carter asked.
  • "His father is yet to be around. I have no choice but to stay with him. I should have let him go by the school bus if I knew he was not going to come." I explained to him with so much frustration.
  • "You should call him." Carter suggested.
  • "I don't have his number." I told him.
  • "I think I have his business card, which he gave me months ago after I sought his help." He took out his wallet and searched for it.
  • "Here it is." He brought it out and handed it over to me.
  • "Thank you." I collected it from him and dialed the number there on my phone.
  • I put my hand against my ear as soon as it started picking but he didn't pick up. I called him several times but no one picked up.
  • "He is not picking up." I told Carter as I handed him the business card.
  • Henry started to cry.
  • I carried him and put him on my lap as I put his head on my chest.
  • "Stop crying, I am very sure you will come and pick you up." I told him but he didn't stop crying.
  • "You should go and check the staff room for his address. I am sure you will see it. You can take him home if you want." Carter said.
  • "That's true." I whispered.
  • I will take you home, okay? Stop crying please. Thank you, Carter." He stopped crying after that. We both went to the staff to check for his record. I searched the room for it. After seeing it, I snapped his address on my phone and arranged the student's information where it was before. I took him out of the staff room and went out of the school gate. I took a cab instead of a bus.
  • I know these expenses are going to affect me later on.
  • I gave the driver the address to his house.
  • Minutes later, we got to our destination and we got down after paying the driver.
  • Currently, I am standing before a gigantic gate. And inside it is a beautiful mansion.
  • Henry jumped in excitement.
  • I smiled at him and went to the gate.
  • The security showed up.
  • "Hello, I am Henry's teacher, I came to drop him off." I introduced myself.
  • "Okay." The security opened the door for me after that and we went inside the compound.
  • Woah! This place is so amazing.
  • We walked towards the mansion, I knocked on the door as we got to the front of the mansion waiting for response but there was none.
  • I rang the bell, but still there was no response. I knocked on the door and also rang the bell several times.
  • I almost gave up since I already brought him to his house. I should go now. I need rest. Today was one hectic day.
  • I almost bid my goodbye to Henry when the door opened.
  • Mr Owen opened the door. He looked so unkempt, a few buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned. His hair is messy.
  • Henry ran to his father and hugged his leg. Mr Blake carried him up and kissed his head. Then he noticed me.
  • "Hey, miss Maxwell. Please come in." He said as he entered the house.
  • Should I enter?
  • "Come in, I won't bite you." He said.
  • He is always rude as usual.
  • I went inside the house hesitantly. The interior was amazing. It was painted all white with expensive furniture and designs.
  • "I am so sorry I couldn't pick you up, Henry." He said to his child.
  • "I was so scared something happened to you." Henry said as he hugged him.
  • I was so engrossed with the interior design of the house. There are only pictures of Henry and Mr Blake on the wall. There is no picture of any woman or lady.
  • What about Henry's mom?
  • My curiosity about her increased.
  • "Thank you for bringing him home. You have done a great favor for me. I really appreciate it." He looked at me.
  • "You are welcome, Mr Owen." I told him as I sat on his couch. The couch has a Bentley logo on it.
  • This must be an expensive couch.
  • "Water?" He asked.
  • "Yes, please." I agreed instantly.
  • He put his child on the floor as he went to somewhere I assume is the kitchen.
  • "Where is Willow?" Henry asked as followed him.
  • I wasn't able to hear their remaining conversation.
  • He came back with a glass of water placed on the tray. He offered it to me and I carried the glass of water and drank the water greedily. I didn't even care if my student was here or not. I have been in the hot sun for like two hours, thirsty and hungry.
  • I gave him the empty glass cup after drinking the water.
  • "Thank you." I appreciated him.
  • "I will get going now." I announced as I carried my bag and went out and they followed me.
  • Mr Blake opened the door for me and to my surprise, it was raining. How could this happen when all I want to do is go to my house and have a good sleep?
  • "I don't think it is a good idea for you to go out like this." Mr Owen said.
  • "I will manage." I told him.
  • "I don't think so, this is an estate. You will have to go outside the estate before you can catch a bus. You can just stay here while the rain stops." He explained.
  • I didn't talk.
  • "There is no harm staying, you know." He shrugged his shoulders.
  • "Okay, I will." We went back to the living room. Henry was nowhere to be found.
  • "He has gone to his playing ground." Mr Owen said.
  • "Oh!" I exclaimed.
  • "I will cook dinner. Feel free." He said as he went out of the living room.
  • This is my first time eating or drinking at the student's house.
