Chapter 4

  • I wanted someone to pull me out of this hell. I wasn’t ready to lose myself, I wasn’t ready to die, not yet.
  • My eyes flickered open, and white shining light penetrated my eyes, I was on a soft bed and my body didn’t hurt anymore. I looked around the room, the sun shining from outside the room penetrated the room. I was In the hospital room. I was saved?
  • My head banged a little as I lay on the bed trying to understand how I had gotten here, the door of the room was pushed open and a man in a white coat walked in, it was the doctor.
  • “Hello, I’m glad you're awake now.” As he said this he went ahead to touch me on my head, used his light on my eyes, and did some other tests.
  • “How do you feel?” He asked and I tried to give a smile but I quivered and I broke down.
  • “I don’t feel so hurt like I did before.” As I said this, I had flashbacks of events that had happened, the pain I felt in my chest, the one in my tummy, the one in my vagina. The baby I felt I was losing.
  • “I’m glad to hear that. You were brought in by a man yesterday and he brought you here right on time else you’d have lost your babies.” As he said this I gasped, he could see the shock in my eyes.
  • “Am I pregnant?” My words were shaky and my eyes were filled with shock. I could see that he was surprised to see my reaction, because why wouldn't I know that I was pregnant?
  • “Yes, you are, You are 2 months gone, and you are carrying twins.” The more he spoke the more I broke down in tears.
  • “The man and his wife are here. They would love to see you. I will let them in if you allow me.” I wiped my eyes and nodded, I would love to see the people that saved me.
  • “Please I’d love to see them and get to thank them.” He smiled at me, he was a doctor with a beautiful smile.
  • Immediately he walked out of the room, a woman walked in.
  • She looked pretty, she had her brunette hair wrapped in a messy bond.
  • “Hey.” Her smile was so beautiful and it was like it calmed me for a second but I couldn't stop myself from crying.
  • “Hey, why are you crying? Please stop, it’s not good for you or your baby.”
  • “You saved me, you saved me from dying out there in the cold, you saved me from losing my babies.” I felt all the pain in my chest left me as I said this. There was a reason to live.
  • “I wasn’t the one who saved you. My husband did, I have only arrived here this morning.” I smiled, I cried, I had missed feelings, my emotions were a mess but she pulled me in a hug and I felt myself get calm.
  • “You smell so good.” I knew she was trying to distract me from crying but how could she make out my scent? I barely had a scent. It was probably my baby’s scent.
  • “It’s probably the babies.” She shook her head negatively.
  • “You smell so good. Forget that, can you tell me how you got there, why were you out that late at night?”
  • There was nothing to hide.
  • “My husband divorced me, rejected me, and threw me away from the pack house after I caught him sleeping with the lady he called his cousin. He said I was barren, he threw me out because I didn’t give him a child.” I cried so hard. Now I have a child he would accept me.
  • “I love him so much and now I have his children. I should go back to him. I should tell him that we are having babies soon. He will accept me.” I wanted to climb down from the bed but she pulled me to sit back down.
  • “No.” I was not understanding why she was not letting me.
  • “He doesn’t love you, if he can let you go that late at night and hurt you this much then he would hurt even your babies .”
  • “You don’t know him, he would love his children.”
  • “Look at me.” She made me stare into her eyes.
  • “I will not let you go back to someone who did this to you. You deserve better, your children deserve better, and he will do worse to you.” I cried as I stared into her eyes, she was telling me the truth and I knew it, Dante didn’t deserve me or our children.
  • “Do you understand?” I nodded and she pulled me into a hug.
  • I watched the door open and an older man walked in, he was probably her husband, I held her tighter, closed my eyes, and cried on her shoulder, I had never cried to someone, I had never felt this comforted before.
  • No one had ever cared for me this much.
  • Dante should go to hell with his stupid mistress, I’d move on, I’ll give my children life and I’ll take care of them.
  • Still entangled in her arms, I let my left hand out and ran it on my tummy and I held it tight.
  • I will not go back to Dante ever. Even if I work as a maid to take care of my children I will. This was a good thing, a blessing in disguise because Dante didn’t deserve to be a father and he didn’t deserve the love I had given to him all this while.
  • “What’s that you have tattooed on your hand?” Her husband who stood at her side watching her engulf me in a hug asked.
  • She pulled away from me “What’s that hunny?” She asked and he pointed at the mark on my wrist.
  • “I don’t know, I have had it ever since I was found by the lake in Blue Hade's pack.”
  • “You were found by the lake?” They both questioned in sync and their voice was a bit hitched. Like they knew things about my life that I didn’t know.
  • “Yes .”
  • “I was found with a little boat, this mark on my hand was a fresh wound and the blanket in the boat had my name on it.” As I said it they both turned to each other. They gasped and were puzzled.
  • “Erica?” They both called my name in sync again.
  • “Yes, my name is Erica,” I replied calmly and they looked at me.
  • “Did you happen to have a bracelet?”
