- When we got home she opened another bottle of red and poured me a glass and we sat down on the little two-seater sofa in the dining room and she snuggled up to me and thanked me for taking her out and said how sorry she was again to have spilt my drink. I shrugged and told her again that it wasn't important. There was a silence for a couple of minutes, which, I realised later, was Joyce summoning up the courage to speak.
