- We ate at an al-fresco restaurant close to the apartment - nobody felt like walking into town that first evening after all the travelling and sun. The meal was delightful and I warmed inside at the curious glances of the other diners at a young man surrounded by four attractive and mature ladies. But the slight tension which had been there before the afternoon on the beach now returned. We chatted and laughed as before but as the evening drew on the laughter became more strained, the conversation more random and the level in the wine bottles dropped more rapidly. - Shortly after nine April proposed that we go back to our rooms and the tension stepped up a notch as the bill was paid and we stood up and made our way up the hill to the apartment.
