Chapter 8 Do You Regret Divorcing Me?
- Jordan's words shocked both Nora and Kevin.
- Who is his woman? Nora was taken aback and noticed Kevin scrutinizing her.
- "Mr. Jordan, is there some misunderstanding?" Kevin asked with a contorted smile while his chubby hand was being twisted painfully by Jordan's bodyguard.
- Suddenly, Jordan squinted his eyes dangerously as he walked to Nora's side. "You addressed her as Ms. Clarke. Don't you know the relationship between the Dawson Family and the Clarke Family? How dare you covet my ex-wife?!"
- It had been five years, so not many people remembered Jordan and Nora's marriage, especially since the marriage and divorce were both quite low-profile.
- Kevin suddenly realized and tried to explain with a forced smile, "Mr. Jordan, but she's just your ex-wife, not your current wife."
- However, cold anger flashed across Jordan's eyes. "That's not the point. Key word being she's mine."
- He then boldly wrapped his arm around Nora's waist, a gesture that seemed more like a declaration of ownership than a protective embrace.
- Nora looked up at him at the sudden closeness. Her heart was erratic not from the butterflies, but from fear. Jordan's dominance was a prison she couldn't escape.
- "Mr. Jordan, I'm sorry I didn't realize Ms. Clarke is your woman. Please let me go…" Kevin's pleading voice was irritating.
- So Jordan raised his hand to signal the bodyguard to escort him away. Nora pursed her lips and wondered. Is he trying to tell me something?
- With only the two of them left, the room went oddly quiet.
- Jordan stared at Nora silently with a hint of anger before questioning her with raised brows. "I saved you. How're you going to repay me?"
- Nora then quietly withdrew her hand from her bag where she kept pepper spray.
- She sneered at his question. "To me, both the pervy Mr. Thorne and the noble Mr. Jordan are equally dangerous."
- She couldn't very well use the pepper spray with Jordan as his bodyguard would take her down in an instant. Although she wanted to keep her smile, she tensed up when she met his hawk-like eyes.
- The next moment, he closed up on her and pinched her cheek. "You should be grateful."
- "Grateful for what?" Nora met his gaze head-on, her voice tight with tension as she questioned, "You have captured me personally three times. Don't tell me you were waiting to catch me again just now. Even if I had to repay you, I need to know what you've done for me."
- Nora made it clear that she didn't want any further involvement with the Dawson Family in the past five years. But it seemed Jordan wasn't going to let her go.
- "You've changed," Jordan remarked, his grip on her still tight.
- Her fair, delicate skin was getting red from his grip, but she remained unaffected by that. "I'm just a stranger to you. You should forget about me. Stop wasting your time on me."
- Although they were married for a year, the duration that they actually spent together was less than a week. Besides that, they had divorced five years ago. Nora couldn't think of a better way to describe their relationship except by calling themselves a stranger.
- "I came to see you because I know you're Luna." Jordan wasn't provoked by Nora's stance. He released her cheek and instead began to gently stroke her slender neck.
- "You know the Dawson Family wants Luna to work on a medical research project, yet you refused. Why? Are you afraid of me, or do you hate me? You're courageous to betray me repeatedly."
- Jordan proved himself as the head of the family. Nora stood no chance in negotiating with him.
- "No why. I simply lack the ability to take on your family's medical research. I am not worthy enough to be associated with you." Nora was firm on her stance.
- "You're more than capable. You dared betray me back then, and you still dare to cross me now. An ex-wife like you sure is unforgettable."
- Jordan was dissatisfied with Nora's attitude to draw a clear line with him. He suddenly gripped her neck. Although not applying pressure, it was still a threatening gesture.
- Nora instinctively struggled, but her efforts were futile against his imposing figure pressing her against the window. Without her high heels, she looked even smaller compared to the 6-foot-2 tall Jordan. The disparity of their sizes was another source of her confinement.
- "Do you hate me so much that you want to push me off the 7th floor, Mr. Jordan?" Nora glared at him, her breathing erratic.
- Suddenly, Jordan looked down at her as he narrowed his eyes. A smile masked his deep voice. "Nora, do you regret divorcing me?" He was questioning her. He admitted that he held a grudge against her and that his desire for control was not to be challenged.
- Regardless of her reasons, the fact of the matter was that Nora cheated on him during their marriage, initiated a divorce, and ran away for five years.
- Nora hesitated for a moment at his question. She didn't understand why Jordan would ask that. Did he want her to feel guilty and apologize? But she was framed back then and wasn't even allowed to explain herself.
- She hadn't contemplated regret; she simply wanted to be left alone by the Dawson Family.
- "No, I do not." Her answer seemed to enrage Jordan as she felt his grip tighten around her neck as she choked.
- "No? Aren't you scared that I'll strangle you?" Jordan was irritated by her unruliness.
- "I fear you, which is why I won't lie to you. I have no regrets. I have been doing well since our divorce. How could a scheming woman like me manipulate you? Don't let me deceive you, Mr. Jordan."
- Nora knew her defiance would only escalate the situation. So she chose to humble herself and paint herself in a bad light. She hoped he would be disgusted by her and let her go.
- At that moment, Jordan laughed out of anger. He stopped strangling her and even let go.
- "Are you attempting to provoke me with your tactics? Nora, you lost. Your desire to save Clarke Pharmaceuticals is your weakness. Do you think I'll let you and the Clarke Family off the hook?"
- "My mistakes have nothing to do with the Clarke Family." Nora panicked, unwilling to drag the Clarke Family into turmoil once more.
- Jordan's cruel smile widened. "Moving forward, the Clarke Family won't sell without my approval. No one will buy it either. Every decision must pass through me. If you don't beg me, you can watch as Clarke Pharmaceuticals goes down."
- He chuckled at Nora's fearful eyes. He then caressed her cheek, seemingly affectionate, but it was a warning in disguise.
- "You'll regret betraying the Dawson Family and me, Nora."
- "Are you the devil?"
- "You're right. I'm your greatest threat."
- Nora stared in disbelief at the malicious smile on his face, realizing she was cornered.
- At the same time, Hudson and Julia had found their location after tracking down the license plate. "Mommy's phone location is here too. That big meanie must be following her."
- Suddenly, Julia looked up and spotted a silhouette by the window on the 7th floor. "Hudson, look. That big meanie is bullying Mommy!"
- Although they couldn't get a clear look, it was evident that Nora was in danger. Hudson then exclaimed, "Julia, let's go save Mommy."
- Back on the 7th floor, Jordan was still waiting for Nora's reply when the car alarm blasted from his phone.
- Jordan's bodyguard reported to him, "Mr. Jordan, our car's system is down. It appears we have a hacker."
- A hacker? At that moment, Nora and Jordan both had their suspicions.
- "Is it the person who saved you from the hotel yesterday? Is it a man?" Jordan was irritated by Nora's worried expression.
- "He's asking for trouble to go against the Dawson Family. He'll regret this when I catch him."
- Nora was overwrought as she guessed that Hudson and Julia had arrived. No! Jordan can't find out I have children!
