  • It was the weekend, and I was back at home—or rather, at Darius’s house—because I wanted to spend time with the children. After tucking them into bed, I walked into the study. The night pressed heavily against the windows. Darius sat at one end of the long table, hunched over files, the dim lamplight casting sharp shadows across his face.
