Chapter 13

  • Rachel was on tenterhooks when standing in front of Eric. Someone knocked on the door a while later, Eric’s magnetic voice rang, “Come in.”
  • Rachel stared at the one who just came in as panic as her - - It was Gabriella, the interviewer she met three months ago.
  • "Good day, Gabriella." Rachel said while hiding the tension in her heart. She carefully peeked at Eric who was leaning against the armchair, and then turned her eyes to the suddenly appeared Gabriella. Her heart was racing for not knowing what the mysterious man’s intention was.
  • "Good day, Mr. Nelson." Gabriella was in a well-fitting white suit that did not diminish her charms but perfectly outlined her big boob. She was servile and submissive when facing Eric, she said, "How may l help you, sir?”
  • Gabriella’s manner toward Eric was a little strange in Rachel's eyes as if Gabriella was Eric’s subordinate...
  • The fact was that Eric really was Gabriella’s big boss. Three years in prison made Rachel isolated from the world which had been turned upside down.
  • "Do you know her?" Eric raised his chin towards Rachel.
  • Gabriella’s face paled a little, and she stole a glare at Rachel, who had greatly impressed her before.
  • Gabriella pulled the corners of her mouth to give a forced smile, “Mr. Nelson, did Rachel offend you? Please don't get mad at her, I must teach her a good lesson for this."
  • Rachel knew that Gabriella was interceding for her. She had expected that Gabriella, who was known for her harshness, would fire her at once, instead of speaking for her in front of Eric. She could not help but feel surprised and appreciate Gabriella.
  • Gabriella glared at Rachel again. She risked helping her only because Rachel had been hard-working while being obedient without causing her any trouble. She was wondering how the ignoble Rachel would offend the one she shouldn’t offend the most.
  • Their interactions clearly caught his sharp black eyes.
  • Eric’s dark eyes grew sullen at Gabriella, “Who was her interviewer?"
  • Gabriella turned pale with large beads of sweat flowing down her forehead.
  • "Hmm?” He snorted and regarded Gabriella with a pale face suspiciously.
  • "Me, It was me, Mr. Nelson. I interviewed and hired her personally.”
  • In fact, things such as interviewing candidates were usually not her job. What was wrong with her that day! It had been two or three years since she hadn't interviewed the applicants in person. There must be something wrong with her that night she hired her.
  • Gabriella was so regretful that she blamed herself now. With the manner of Mr. Nelson toward Rachel, she must have pissed him off. Since Gabriella had worked for Mr. Nelson for years, she could tell he was taking it seriously with anger.
  • "You hired her? As a cleaner?" Eric’s slender brow raised slightly while Gabriella’s face bathed in sweat because of fear.
  • Her whole body was numb yet she didn't dare to wipe off her sweat.
  • She told the truth carefully, “During the interview, based on Miss Morris’s performance which was not up to any of the other positions at Royal Club, not even fit to be an attendant...”
  • Gabriella said awkwardly, “But Miss Morris herself offered to apply for a cleaner here."
  • Gabriella raised her head suddenly and added, "Mr. Nelson, Rachel has been working so hard and efficiently since she started to work here.”
  • People with the status of Gabriella had long ignored the grass-roots staff. But somehow Gabriella had a special feeling for Rachel Morris.
  • She was living in a different world from this lowly and pity woman, but somehow she felt they had something in common that she couldn't figure out what it was no matter how many times she thought about it.
  • After she blurted out what she said, Gabriella finally awoke in shock. She peeked at Eric nervously.
  • He was sitting on the brown armchair with his legs crossed. He was elegant as a gentleman, “Gabriella, she is now transferred to the Public Relations Department."
  • Gabriella wondered if she had misheard him so she stared at Eric in shock, “Pardon me? Mr. Nelson? I didn't quite catch what you said.”
  • Public Relations Department? Rachel Morris? She must have misheard.
  • “I said, such a hard-working and efficient worker as Rachel Morris, she deserves a promotion." Eric who was in good shape put his legs down before standing up and cast a cold look at the stunned Rachel.
  • He sneered disdainfully, “Gabriella, before you assign your subordinates a position you should make certain what their abilities. You must know nothing of this Miss Morris's skill in acting.”
  • Rachel stiffened at his words.
  • Suppressed anger seemed to be in his voice, “The public relations department needs someone as Miss Morris who can take temporary setbacks. Kneeling and kowtowing were her good trick. So as the others, such as pleasing men."
  • The atmosphere was cold as the ice.
  • Rachel's deathly pale face did not even earn a bit of the man's mercy. Eric was pleased by her look of despair... Can you still remain indifferent, Rachel Morris?'
  • Eric couldn’t believe that such a proud person as Rachel would become an obedient woman like this. He wondered if she indeed was as lowly and worthless as she pretended to be now.
  • What Eric was doing now was intending to force Rachel to the limit. He was not yet aware of his innermost thoughts that the Rachel he wanted was the one who once said, 'I'll keep you at a distance once Helen become your girlfriend!"
  • The last he wanted to see was the Rachel who was as lowly as a pitiful creature. What's more, he didn't realize the unacceptable fact behind his insults toward Rachel was that it was he who made her this way!
  • Eric made all excuses to defend himself that she deserved his insults for she had murdered Helen Evans.
  • You can't wake a person who is pretending to be asleep. However, he would have to wake up one day.
  • Gabriella was finally certain that she had heard correctly this time----Mr. Nelson determined to transfer Rachel to the P.R. department.
  • In fact, the stuff in the P.R. department were all escorts.
  • "Um...” Gabriella glanced at the pale Rachel. “Yes, sir."
  • She judged from her years of experience that they have an unusual relationship.
  • This was the first time she had seen Mr. Nelson deal with the promotion of grass-roots employees. To put in plain language, Royal Club was no more than one of Eric’s trivial businesses, which he had never cared about.
  • "Rachel, follow me," Gabriella said in a formal manner. Rachel's face was as pale as a white sheet. Suddenly she raised her pitiful eyes at him and pleaded, "Please don’t, I don't want it.”
  • The P.R. department... Eric wanted to transfer her to the P.R. department?
  • No!
