Chapter 63 A Mother And Her Secret
- Calliope paused for a moment, letting out a soft sigh. “To be honest, I don't even know who Cay's father is. All I remember is when I was seven, there was this one time my mom dolled herself up and went out, leaving me in the care of our neighbor. That one goodbye turned into a month-long absence. I thought my mom had abandoned me. Just when I was steeped in despair, she returned. She was as beautiful as she was when she left, but her eyes lacked the usual shine. She actually resembled a walking zombie. Regardless of what I said to her, she gave no response.”
- “Later on, she gave birth to Cay.” At this point, Calliope's voice gradually faded. “Dad was furious, and he scolded harshly my mom. I remember the day they fought. My mom smiled at my dad, but her smile was terrifying. Even now, thinking about it gives me chills.”
- “That day, my dad left a check and never returned. It wasn't until before I got married that I hastily met him once.” Calliope scoffed. “He probably thought that money was enough to sever ties with my mom.”
