- Morning didn’t come with light. It crept into Lornwick like dark water soaking through old paper.
- The thick, choking fog rolled back over Cinder Ward, wrapping around brick buildings and half-built concrete blocks. The crushing pressure that had nearly crushed the city was gone. In its place: broken windows, burst pipes, and the sharp smell of burnt air.
- Lornwick kept moving. It was built to take damage and turn it into forms and reports.
