Chapter 5

  • Japheth's POV
  • I stared at the girl for a while and to be honest, my heart and mind yearned to know who she was. If only I could fly up there and see who she was.... know whom she was and what kind of effect she had on me. Perhaps I was just exaggerating. Perhaps my instincts were wrong this time and I should focus on what brought me here.
  • "We are not leaving without the girls!". I exclaimed as i turned my attention back at the dark muscular man while trying to put on a serious face.
  • The man chuckled.
  • What the hell?. Had I cracked up a joke unknowingly or what?.
  • "Be serious!". He exclaimed mid his chuckle. "Do you think these girls are like you? Mindless people? These girls are ladies with great potential, they know what they want in life unlike you boys!". The man said disgustingly while staring down at us. His chuckle had long gone as if it hadn't been there at the first place.
  • I felt mocked.
  • "What makes you think that they will come with you and strike?". He added.
  • "And who do you think you are to tell us all these? Are you the director or?". I asked as I unseemingly calmed down. I could still feel that unusual stranger girl staring at me.
  • Yes, I could feel her eyes on me and I didn't want to risk again to look at her.
  • The man laughed again. I was getting impatient with him and instead of getting more angry and loosing my temper, I was getting calmer and easy. "My status in this school does not concern you young man.. you should learn how to mind your own business!". He said as he came a step forward, towards me. It's when I realized that the man was slightly taller than me.
  • "Okay", I responded. "But still I insist on going with the girls". I added.
  • "Young man, we men all know that girls are fragile objects... It's almost daylight... and you will be risking a lot going with them. Plus, if the parents learn about these, not only will you be putting yourself into trouble but also me and the whole of the school's management and stuff". He explained.
  • So what?.
  • Fred stepped forward and stood beside me before he whispered something into my ear, "This man is not the director of the school, he is the discipline master... I remember I saw him during that funkie on Sunday, Moreover, his advice is good... remember our plan B? we shall do it later on lets go and rest!".
  • "Hmm if you want the cops after you then, feel free to proceed with your plans". The man said as he stepped aside paving way for us after Fred had gone back to stand on his former position. I was reluctant, I wanted to go in but then I remembered Fred's words and the girl at the window then, I became calm again.
  • "The damage you boys have caused is enough. Don't you think so?. You have probably scared off the girls and now you think they'll accept to leave this safe place to go with violent people like you?". The man asked thus trying to convince me more... Had he heard what Fred had told me?. Well, I didn't care.
  • I took in a deep breathe, loosening my grip on the stone just a little bit.
  • "Okay we shall leave but don't think we have given up!. We shall be back!". I hissed as I turned to leave but before I could make another step, I turned back to look at the girl on the other side of the window again.
  • "Will be back for you!" I whispered to myself before the boys and I jogged off.
  • Christine's POV
  • I felt lazy as Hawo and I bathed. I didn't want to do any of this at all. I finished bathing then walked back to our cubicle so as to dress up for the day. I dried myself up with my towel, applied some body lotion on myself then dressed up in my uniform: a sky blue skirt and white long sleeved shirt. I dressed up quickly because I had duties to perform before morning preps time reached.
  • My mind was at ease now that no strike happened and well I would now study with no worries. I finished dressing up, put on my socks and black leather shoes (which was part of the school uniform) then left for the store where mobs and buckets were kept. All girls had duties to either clean their cubicle or bathroom but the classes and dining hall were always cleaned up by the ones under punishment.
  • But on my way to the store I heard noises from outside which were loud and violent... It was as if the someone was shooting at the main gate?.
  • Shooting?. Was that really a gun shot?.
  • It was as if we were under attack because of the shouting. Was it the strike taking place now?.
  • This was certainly wrong timing.
  • Some girls came out of their cubicles to see what was going on while others who were in the bathroom ran back to the dorms quickly not bothering to rinse the soap on them off, other girls ran naked totally forgetting the purpose of their towels and bathrobes. But who would, when something unknown was taking place right outside our school gate?.
  • Other girls who had already performed their duties were in class, a few girls ran out of the classrooms up to the dorms running past us while screaming loudly as well. I wondered what was going on but the girls were too afraid and freaked out to answer when we asked.
  • I had started being afraid too. I wanted to run inside our cubicle as well but I felt as if I was glued to where I was standing. The Madam Principle was shouting hysterically for us to go back to our dorms and not to get out till further notice. I could hear the class and dorm representatives shouting as well telling the girls to calm down.
  • "Chris? what are you doing here? Come lets go". Hawo yelled out at me as she held my arm and pulled me away... I wasn't in my senses, I felt confused.
  • I thought the strike wasn't taking place but now, when I thought that everything was perfectly fine, here it came with it's full force.
  • "Hawo?. What is going on?". I asked as she led me to the form four classes which were in the third floor.
  • I knew what was going on but I wanted to be sure of what was going on.
  • "There is a strike, the boys of Blue True High are here... they are the ones causing that commotion outside the school's gate". She explained.
  • "If there is a strike? Then, what are we doing here? shouldn't we go to our cubicles where it is at least safe?". I asked in utmost fear.
  • What if the boys came in the school and attacked us?.
  • "They can't pass through the main gate because Mr. Job is out there with some of the school's security men". Hawo explained.
  • "Will the cops be called on them?". I asked.
  • "I don't think so!". She exclaimed. "But look at the damage they have caused, they broke our school's outer gate and some of our windows".
  • "They broke the gate? They are strong!" I muttered to myself.
  • "Look! Mr. Job is talking to them!" Hawo exclaimed as she nudged me to look outside the window with her elbow. It was almost morning, why would they insist on striking at this hour?.
  • I looked down at them and saw one of the boys step in front. Perhaps he was the leader talking to our discipline master. He looked masculine but I couldn't get more of his features because of the sun rays abstracting through the window. Hawo then looked aside as she spoke to another girl explaining the current incident.
  • I kept on looking at the guy. Though I hadn't seen him clearly, there was something strange about him, I felt as if i knew him from somewhere. But how could I feel this way towards a total stranger?.
  • I wondered what Mr.Job was telling them that made them calm in that manner. The guy in front of the others looked up at me for a few minutes... Then back at Mr. Job, They spoke for a while before he turned to go away but he looked up again, had he seen me? I wondered, but the guy then left, his fellow boys following him behind... Still, I wondered what they had conversed on.
  • I wanted to know who that guy was. I wanted to know why I felt such a feeling.. Of familiarity and something else stranger to me somewhere within my chest.
  • I wanted to know why...
  • But...
  • One thing i was sure off, was that this was not the end.
