Chapter 5 The Third Brother

  • "Watch your step, Master Chengbin. Your little sister is still napping. Don't wake her," Jiang Ning cautioned as she pulled him along.
  • Yang Chengbin, the third young master, just turned eight this year. He was born on the Lantern Festival and had a round, chubby face.
  • He was a bit mischievous, and not much into studying, but loved indulging in snacks and treats.
  • His father, Marquess Yang, often scolded him for his antics.
  • Yang Chengbin quickly covered his mouth and whispered, "Okay, I'll be quiet. But where's my little sister?"
  • Xu Jia smiled and pointed to the cradle in the next room.
  • "Mother, you look really tired and pale. What happened?" Yang Chengbin, though just eight, was always attentive to his mother's well-being.
  • Zhang Ling managed a smile. "Oh, just feeling a bit exhausted today. Don't worry about me. Why are you back so early?"
  • Zhang Ling heard something and asked with a frown, "Did you skip your class again?"
  • Yang Chengbin chuckled. "Grandma always covers for me, so Father can't scold me … I've never been into studying anyway." He often got in trouble for skipping his studies.
  • A vein throbbed on Zhang Ling's forehead.
  • She looked troubled. "Chengbin, you should start being more responsible. Maybe then your Father will … show you more affection?" There was still a glimmer of hope in Zhang Ling's heart.
  • Yang Chengbin huffed. "I'd rather die than study!" Studying was absolutely out of the question for him.
  • Zhang Ling sighed.
  • Yang Chengbin walked over to the separate room, leaned over the bed, and his chubby face popped up in front of Yang Yuting.
  • Yang Yuting jumped in surprise.
  • 'Oh, it's my brother with the eternal grudge … '
  • 'Looks all tough, but kinda cute.'
  • Yang Chengbin blinked in confusion.
  • He glanced back and saw Zhang Ling far away, he knew she didn't hear it.
  • Yang Chengbin rubbed his nose, realising it was just him and his little sister.
  • Wow, it seems like I'm truly the chosen one.
  • It's like I can almost hear what my sister's thinking! Yang Chengbin grinned with delight.
  • 'Poor my third brother. He is miserable … '
  • 'Has been led astray from a young age, overly spoiled, hates studying … Just a fool who displeases his sc*mbag father and brings shame to the family.'
  • 'Even though he's a Marquess' son, he's uneducated, embarrassing us all in the entire city.'
  • 'Sigh, Chengbin never seemed too bright. No wonder he ended up dying so horribly … '
  • Yang Chengbin's fingers trembled. Me? Dying horribly?
  • 'They ripped out his tongue, cut off his ears, sliced his mouth and nose, chopped off his limbs, and then stuffed him into a big jar to make him into a human-pig! Such a miserable fate for a man ... ' Yang Yuting thought about his three brothers, each dying in a more gruesome manner than the other.
  • Yang Yuting gave him a subtle glance, knowing he'd always been slow, and ended up losing his life because of someone's scheme.
  • Yang Chengbin jumped up with a loud "Whoa!"
  • "What's wrong?" Zhang Ling snapped back to reality, looking over at her son in the adjacent room.
  • Yang Chengbin hesitated, then blurted out, "I … I want to go back to my room."
  • Under Zhang Ling's puzzled gaze, Yang Chengbin's eyes welled up with tears, his chubby hands clenched into fists. "I … I want to go back to studying. I'll go back and study until I've mastered everything!"
  • Sob sob sob. It's so awful. I'm so miserable!!
  • The chubby kid wailed and ran off, crying.
  • Zhang Ling was dumbfounded, unable to come back to her senses.
  • Jiang Ning smiled and said, "Madam, our Master Chengbin has become sensible now. Lord Yang will surely be happy when he hears about it."
