Chapter 4 A Hidden Genius

  • Olivia put down her utensils and stood up, ready to return to her room.
  • "Oh, eating so little today? Don't you usually need three plates to feel full?" Ella sneered, glancing mockingly at Olivia's plate.
  • "Wash the dishes before you go back to your room," ordered Melisenna.
  • "Olivia had a nasty fall yesterday. She shouldn't be doing the dishes. Ella, Ethan, you two can do it," Olivia's father responded gruffly.
  • "I don't know how," Ella replied, then muttered under her breath, "It's not like she hurt her paws, just her head. She always does the dishes anyway."
  • "Let her wash them! She's so fat, so maybe if she moves around more, she'll slim down and be healthier!" Melisenna snapped impatiently, making Olivia do the chores.
  • Olivia stood at the entrance to the living room, her gaze shifting back to Melisenna. Her eyes narrowed slightly, seemingly as though holding back something deep within her.
  • These ordinary wolves had no idea what kind of consequences they'd face if they angered a bloodthirsty warrior like her!
  • If Melisenna or Ella dared to utter another word, Olivia wasn't sure she could stop herself from doing something about it.
  • Just then, Ethan finished eating and quietly gathered the dishes.
  • "Put those down! Is it your job to wash dishes? Go to your room and do your homework!" Melisenna snapped, unwilling to let her precious son do such menial work. All the household chores were always dumped on Olivia.
  • Olivia was worked to the bone every day, and the large portions she ate were just to keep up her strength.
  • Ignoring Melisenna, Ethan quietly continued clearing the table and took the dishes to the sink.
  • Ella furrowed her brows, annoyed but too lazy to scold her taciturn brother. She got up and returned to her room, oblivious to the storm she had narrowly avoided.
  • Melisenna shot Olivia a venomous glare before storming into the kitchen to chase her son away and take over the dishwashing herself.
  • Having slept all day, Olivia was feeling somewhat refreshed, both mentally and physically. She walked out into the courtyard to survey the home where this family lived.
  • The old house sat on the outskirts of Ravenscroft Pack's territory, a dilapidated place that no one else wanted. Though rundown, it was large enough with a backyard, a picket fence, and a separate kitchen.
  • A maple tree grew in the courtyard.
  • The house had several rooms. Originally, their extended family had lived here, but after everyone else improved their status through hard work, they moved to more central parts of the pack's territory, leaving only Olivia's family behind.
  • Ethan walked out of the kitchen, glancing briefly at Olivia, who stood in the backyard. Their eyes met for a moment before he turned and limped back to his room.
  • Olivia watched his retreating figure, her gaze lingering on his limp.
  • In the original owner's memories, although Ethan was quiet and reserved, he had been the kindest person in the family to her.
  • He would secretly slip her pieces of bread when she was hungry and would step in to help when Melisenna forced her to do heavy chores...
  • After thinking for a moment, Olivia trudged after him.
  • Inside his room, Ethan pulled out a difficult math problem he had copied from the internet the day before. He frowned as he sat at his desk, trying to solve it.
  • Sensing something, he looked up to see Olivia standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame with her arms crossed.
  • Her large frame almost blocked the entrance completely.
  • It was the first time Olivia had ever come to his room. Normally, as soon as she came back from school, day or night, she would retreat to her own room and stay there, only coming out to do chores.
  • Ethan noticed that his sister seemed different today.
  • Olivia walked over, glancing down at Ethan's notebook. She raised an eyebrow and asked, "Are you stuck?"
  • He looked at her silently.
  • Without waiting for a response, she took the pen from his hand. She didn't even need to think as her hand moved swiftly, writing across the notebook.
  • By the time Ethan processed what was happening, the entire page was filled with detailed work, and the problem, which had been far beyond his level, was already solved.
  • Not only was it solved, but it was done perfectly!
  • Each step was clear and precise, with a unique approach that showed true skill.
  • After looking over the solution, Ethan had a lightbulb moment. Everything made sense now, and his excitement brought a flush to his face.
  • After the initial surprise, Ethan stared at Olivia in disbelief. "How do you know this?"
  • This was the first time her brother had spoken to her.
  • "It's a basic problem. Anyone with a brain can solve it," Olivia responded honestly.
  • Ethan frowned. "This is an Olympiad-level question I copied from the internet, though."
  • "And?" Olivia replied, unfazed.
  • His suspicion deepened as he studied Olivia's strange behavior. "You usually fail all your exams. You even hand in blank sheets when it comes to math. How did you manage to solve this?"
  • "I was just too lazy to care," she lied through her teeth.
  • Ethan's eyes lit up. "So, you actually know how to solve all these questions but just can't be bothered to do them?"
  • Olivia remained silent, and Ethan took it as confirmation.
  • He tried to contain his shock and excitement. "How long do you plan to be lazy for, then? Are you going to stay this lazy when the pack alliance exams come around?"
  • "Of course not." Olivia's voice was firm. As Crimson Shadowblade, she had carried countless honors and fought her way from a Rogue to a bloodthirsty warrior feared even by Alphas. When had she ever tolerated such weakness or endured looks of disdain and contempt?
  • Regardless of her current status, Alpha or Omega, others could only look up to her and bow down.
  • She was meant to stand at the pinnacle, looking down on everyone!
  • The sudden burst of confidence that radiated from Olivia caught Ethan off guard. For a moment, he stood frozen in place.
  • The sister he had known for over a decade, the fool everyone mocked, was now revealing herself to be a hidden genius. It was hard for Ethan to process, yet somehow, an inexplicable sense of trust welled up inside him. He even found himself anticipating what she might achieve once she stopped being lazy.
