Jane has made Andrew experience all types of happy and sweet feelings just in the few days they have been together but at this moment she is making him experience something he thought he didn't have it him...extreme Anger and hatred, not towards her though but to the one who had harmed and was hurting her, Jake. Jake didn't know this but he could have been a dead man, he was so close to being dead because Andrew could have killed him, the thought came to Andrew's mind the moment he walked into the party and saw Jake harming and assaulting Jane. Something sparked inside of him and instantly his protective instinct kicked in but not only that he was engulfed by a very strange feeling. A feeling of great anger, pain and hatred that his whole body was crying out for him to just stab Jake to death and when he saw Jane's tears he felt his blood boil up even more and he really wanted to make the one responsible for her tears suffer dearly. Jake ended up only receiving a punch on the chin when he could easily have received a stabbing in the heart and the only reason why Andrew didn't do more to him was because he felt much more concerned to console Jane and make her feel better as she was in tears than to seek revenge.
Her tears hurt him so, it makes him feel guilty that he didn't come on time to stop Jake from hurting her. That's why he kept on apologizing to her because truly he faulted himself for what happened to her.
