• The phone buzzed on Victoria’s kitchen counter, drawing her attention away from the quiet of the morning. She glanced at the screen—Zander. She hadn’t heard from him much since that late-night conversation, and a part of her was both eager and wary to hear from him again.
• She picked up the call, her tone still carrying a hint of uncertainty. “Hey, Zander. What’s up?”
• “Hey, Vic. I need a favor,” Zander’s voice came through, warm but with an underlying urgency. “I’m at the gallery, and I know you’re working on a new painting, but could you step away for a bit? I need you to come with me for something important.”
