Chapter 6

  • Chapter 6
  • Elysia
  • I watched as Calden’s face darkened when he heard what I said.
  • “You should really be careful about what you say, Elysia! How dare you call yourself an orphan when we're still alive? You shouldn't act this way simply because somebody is supporting you now. You'll regret it!” he seethed, fists clenching at his sides.
  • I scoffed, rolling my eyes at how stupid he sounded. “Are you even listening to yourself, Calden? You sound so foolish right now. I wonder if this is how the Ashbournes raised their children.”
  • Lexa stood beside Calden looking tormented, like she didn't know what to say. Her face was red as she grabbed Calden's hand. “We should leave, Calden. People are staring at you. Let's leave Elysia alone, she might just be having a hard time.”
  • Calden snatched his hand from Lexa's grip, and he glared at me furiously. “I don't care if people are staring at us. Elysia is not having a hard time, she's just showing us her true colours. She's showing us how disrespectful and ungrateful she is despite everything we've done for her!”
  • Lexa looked at me suspiciously. “How did you get that much money to pay for the things you bought, Elysia? Did you get a sugar daddy to sponsor your lifestyle? Are you sleeping around for money now? Mom and Dad would be angry if they find out.”
  • “She's not sleep—” Stella, who had been quiet all along, was about to speak up, when I stopped her.
  • “Don't worry. I'll handle this myself,” I told her before facing Lexa again.
  • “Whatever I do is none of your fucking business, Lexa. If you want me to find you a sugar daddy who can buy expensive things for you without limit, I can do that much charity for you,” I snapped, a smirk on my face.
  • Lexa's face turned red and she looked like she would explode any minute. “You... You... You're a disgusting person!”
  • I chuckled, ignoring her as I went back to the store attendant and swiped my card. Then I wrote Kade's address on a piece of paper.
  • “Please send everything to this address. Thank you,” I told her before turning around. I saw that Calden and Lexa were still looking at me.
  • “If you see me out in public next time, stay away from me. If you walk up to me and talk trash, I will make sure to deal with you.”
  • With that, I made my way out of the boutique with Stella hot on my tail.
  • Knowing Calden and Lexa, I knew they were going to go home and tell their parents about what had just happened. The two of them behaved like kids and could never do anything on their own without mommy and daddy's knowledge.
  • “Miss Elysia, who were those people? They were really talking nonsense. What are you going to do about them?” Stella asked, and I glanced at her.
  • “They are some people I used to know, the people I used to call family. They're irrelevant to me now,” I responded. “And I'll deal with them if they try doing something stupid like this next time.”
  • I wasn't really bothered about them anymore.
  • The line had already been crossed, and there was no going back.
  • The only thing they did was spoil my mood for the day.
  • Calden and Lexa were close in age, so they got along very well.
  • Whenever Lexa would go out, she would drag Calden along so he could pay for everything. And he didn't mind. He would always do it happily.
  • Seeing them act this way with each other made me feel left out. Especially because Calden and I used to be very close before I went missing, we would always do everything together. We were practically inseparable. But since Lexa came into the picture, it was like I didn't exist at all.
  • “Miss Elysia, can I ask you a question?” Stella uttered, and I nodded.
  • “Sure, go ahead.”
  • “I know some things about your family history. And I know you're the real daughter of the Ashbournes. But it seems Calden cares about Lexa more than he cares about you, despite him being your biological brother. Why is it like that?”
  • I smiled softly. “I guess it's because Lexa is good at brainwashing people. She has every single person wrapped around her pinky finger,” I answered with a chuckle. “Anyway, it's late now. Let's get back home.”
  • “Okay, Miss Elysia.”
  • We got to Kade's mansion about an hour later, and immediately I got into the sitting room, my phone rang. I took it out of my purse to see it was Kade calling.
  • “Hey. Did you have fun at the shopping mall?” His deep, velvety voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
  • I lied down on the couch, staring up at the beige ceilings. “I was having fun at first, until I saw some people I would've rather never seen.”
  • Kade chuckled. “Let me guess, the Ashbournes?”
  • I nodded even though he couldn't see me. “Yes. Lexa and Calden. They are literally the most annoying people ever.”
  • “Want me to deal with them for you?” he asked, and I shook my head.
  • “Nah, there's no need for that. I'll handle it myself. You shouldn't have to worry about people as insignificant as them,” I responded, and the line was quiet for a few seconds.
  • “Alright then...” Kade trailed off. “You can always let me know if you need anything,” he added before hanging up.
  • Lexa
  • I stormed into the house with Calden by my side, furious about what happened at the shopping mall.
  • Mom and Dad were sitting in the living room, and it seemed like we interrupted their conversation.
  • I was about to speak but Calden beat me to it. His voice was full of anger. “Dad, Mom, Elysia has become a disgrace to this family. She is bringing shame to the family name. She has a sugar daddy now and is sleeping around for money!”
  • I stood beside him, trying to calm him down even though I was livid. “Calm down, Calden. She might not actually have a sugar dad—”
  • “What did you just say? Elysia is prostituting herself for money?” Dad shouted angrily.
  • “What happened exactly? Tell us right now!” Mom yelled.
  • “We ran into Elysia at the shopping mall today, and she was holding a card only a few people have. And she was buying expensive things like they cost nothing. It's obvious the money is from her sugar daddy!” Calden ranted.
  • “How dare she try to tarnish our prestigious family name by doing something that disgraceful! Henceforth, Elysia is no longer an Ashbourne! She has seized being a member of this family, and whatever happens to her is her problem to bear!” Dad said furiously, and those words warmed my heart.
  • I covered my face with my hands like I was wiping my tears, but I was only trying to hide my smile.
  • This was what I always wanted!
  • But my smile fell when I remembered something. “Dad, Elysia still has the position grandpa gave her. What are we going to do about it?”
  • Dad huffed, his eyes red from anger. “Calden, find out where she is living now. We must find her and make her give us the position!”
  • “I'll do that right away!” Calden responded before walking away.
  • “Lexa?” Mom called and I looked at her. “Stop thinking about that foolish girl and start preparing for the charity gala.”
  • I nodded with a smile. “I'll do that, Mom.”
